Vintage: Harem Pants, Not Just For Disco Divas

harem-pants
You probably never thought the harem pant would make its way into your daily style rotation, right? The fashion innovators of the 1970s are responsible for catapulting this trend into the mainstream. The billowy, flowing legs that taper down to the ankle were worn by the boldest fashionistas who were all about style and comfort.
Cut to today, and the harem pant has evolved to include an array of modern day fabrics, patterns, colors and styles to fit any woman’s lifestyle; whether she likes to keep her fashion choices more subdued or go all out. The modern day cuts are streamlined and flattering on almost any body type and can be found anywhere from the top notch retailers to the bargain basements.
The harem pant was seen all over the spring 2013 RTW runway shows, making this 1970s-inspired trend one that I think will be around for quite some time. Some of my favorite takes were shown by 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rachel Zoe and J. Mendel. So don’t be afraid to take the plunge and take this trend head on. I accepted the challenge a couple of years ago with a navy blue pair from H&M and after investing in a brown, lightweight version from designer Humanoid, I haven’t looked back! The good thing about this vintage inspired trend is that you can pair it with just about anything. Give it a try with your favorite graphic tee, flirty top, blazer or a jean jacket. You literally can’t go wrong!
