Perhaps it’s my newfound love of Mad Men or the fact that spring has finally made it to Chicago (well, it did for a few days at least) but I’m getting excited about the splash of color and prints that I’ve been seeing for spring 2013. The saturated color palette of the late 1960s is center stage once again. The rich purples, blues, corals, yellows (need I go on?) and fun prints are super easy to wear no matter your personal preference. You can add a cute little ballet flat to shake up a more neutral outfit or go all out and mix and match across the color spectrum.
Bright hues and prints started to become more prominent in the mid to late 1960s when the more demure styles of the 1950s began to teeter out. The civil and political unrest of that time and British influence contributed to higher hemlines, brighter colors and bolder patterns – not to mention the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar!
The good thing about this trend is that it’s not a “blink and you’ll miss it” one. You can walk into any store, from Wal-Mart to Neiman Marcus, and find a plethora of options. I think this is probably the look every woman should be sporting this spring and summer. It’s flirty, feminine and fun!
