I may be going too far with my comments on this year’s CFDA Awards, but in my opinion, I believe it’s the best CFDA Fashion Awards carpet I’ve ever seen! It’s because the high level of fashion was unlike anything I’ve ever laid eyes on in the past. While some of the fashion was overboard – ahem Rihannain Swarovski crystallized nude Adam Selman – the red carpet was full of fashion risk-taking in color, texture, and tone from celebrities likeLupita Nyong’o, Imanand Heidi Klum, the red carpet saw fringe, gold, cut outs, key holes, architecture, patterns, neons and yes, even a putrid green (we’re talking to you, Emmy Rossum.)
Fashion is having a moment right now and that moment is not subdued. We thought we’d see it at the Met Gala this year, but the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards seem to have toppled that one over with its level of drama – Coco Rocha, anyone?
With the recipients of the 2014 Fashion Awards being designers like Joseph Altuzarra and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for The Row, Tom Ford, Raf Simons, and Irene Neuwirth, the essence of true, technical, sometimes experimental fashion seems to be taking over the runways and the red carpet. Anna Wintour should be proud.
