Trend For Spring 2012: The Great Gatsby. 2012 Meets 1921

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is without a doubt one of my favorite novels of all time. Ever since I read it for the first time in high school I have been obsessed with all things roaring 20’s . I even wanted my wedding to emulate one of  Jay Gatsby’s extravagant parties in East Egg and even chose a dress that reminded me of Daisy Buchanan…only less tragic. So needless to say, I am absolutely wild for the Great Gatsby/Roaring 20’s trend that is happening for Spring 2012. Designers, like Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Alberta Ferretti, Christian Dior, Etro and Marchesa referred to this time period for much of their spring collections. Look for flapperesque beading and fringe; drop waists; deep v-necks; metallic trims and piping;  art deco inspired jewelry; beaded caps and long dangling necklaces. Basically, if you think Coco Chanel might have worn it, you’re good. I personally can’t see anyone being a better Jay Gatsby, but young Robert Redford, but I digress. Add some roaring 20’s into your wardrobe before the remake of the classic 1974 movie is released. Here are some of our favorite current Great Gatsby inspired pieces:
