Sue Devitt visited Barneys New York on Oak Street this month on her annual visit to greet and mingle with her loyal Chicago fans. She was there to oversee her make-up team and gave us tips for best bets in skincare and color choices. I was at Barney’s for two reasons. One, to meet Sue Devitt in person, and two, to get refills on some of my favorite Sue Devitt products. I have tried a lot of color cosmetics and beauty products and Sue Devitt is absolutely one of my favorites. I actually use them up and need to replace certain colors! The colors and pigments are so beautiful, look very natural and you can use them every day. Laura Robenhorst at Barneys Sue Devitt counter in Chicago always makes me look so much better, and shows me easy tricks to apply the fabulous makeup myself. She has become my trusted beauty guru!
It was exciting to meet Sue Devitt (who is so lovely) and she was more than happy to answer my questions.
SCS: You always seem to be a front-runner with formulation of products and color. How had your line evolved to answer women’s beauty needs?
Sue Devitt: I identified a niche in the market that had not yet been explored. While makeup artist brands changed the landscape of the cosmetic industry by offering the right shades to consumers, they had done little to raise the bar in terms of formulations that benefit or improve the quality of the skin. As I have a background as a makeup artist as well as a formulator, I can work closely with our private group of chemists to formulate makeup that has the most exquisite colors and terrific skin-care benefits. My decision to add skin-care ingredients to makeup was also a holistic decision. I prefer to cover skin with beautifying, anti-aging and nurturing ingredients that will improve the skin’s health and quality. That’s something that all women deserve and should have access to.
SCS: What new product are you most excited about in Color Cosmetics and in skincare?
Sue Devitt: In Color Cosmetics I am most excited about my new Defining Eyeliner. This pencil is ultra-thin, and glides on smooth for precision definition in a range of beautiful colors. Defining Eyeliner is also long-wearing, water-resistant, and features Hyaluronic Filling Spheres and Nylon-12 that lock in moisture and prevent creasing.
In Skincare I am most excited about the Spring 2012 launch of my new Microquatic(tm) Bioluminescence(tm) Line Filler and Wrinkle Reducer. The revolutionary light-reflecting properties of the photo-luminescent microspheres will restore skin’s natural radiance, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. After applying a small amount to your fingertips, gently tap around lips, on cheeks or any other problematic areas to visibly reduce the signs of aging.
Then I got to try some of the products first-hand from Sue Devitt Midwest Regional Sales manager, Janet Russell. She used the new line filler and wrinkle reducer around my eyes, that worked like a mini collagen lift. She used a special edition eye color palette on my eyes, and then ta violet eyeliner over the powder, a trick that made the creamy pencil stay put. Then she showed me the new Defining eyeliners that Janet said are “no budge.” Interestingly, she used silver over the dark brown that really made my eyes pop! For my lips she applied a sheer lipstick in Hollywood and then applied Costa Del Sol Lip gloss over it. “Don’t press your lips together” was a great tip because she found a perfect shade for my lips! Suddenly others getting makeovers wanted to try this lipstick and gloss combo! She used Bioluminescence Illuminating Concealer that lifted the darkness from my undereye area. Then Janet put Golden Triangle Eye Lip and Cheek Highlighter over my forehead, cheeks and eyes, which gave me (a much needed) moisturized look. Then I was off for the evening with friends, and I am able to duplicate the look at home!
