The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards: Sofia Vergara, Julia Roberts, Kerry Washington and More

emmys awards, red carpet fashion Red and white madness hit the red carpet at the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards and if it wasn’t red or white on a gown, it was something completely opposite – like Sarah Paulson’s black with red polka dots number or Kerry Washington’s modern orange gown with a slit. I guess you could say the outfits were up and down, like the Emmys themselves, which featured everything from Amy Poehler’s hilarious jokes to a touching tribute to Robin Williams. Most of the stars shined but some, like Lena Dunham, didn’t. Let’s check out the best of the best at this year’s Emmy Awards. Here’s looking at you, Julia Roberts!
Julia Roberts in Elie Saab

Can anyone else not get over this Elie Saab mini on Julia Roberts? Not just the mini itself but the fact that Julia Roberts is wearing it!! I would have never expected it from her and it is such a beautiful work of art and so refreshing! I know People magazine keeps saying they called it but did they call it ON Julia Roberts?

Something about this gown on Kerry Washington is just so amazing and incredulous all at once? I mean, I don’t know whether to love it or hate it.  The orange is different, the silver lining is unique, and don’t even get me started on that black sparkly piece under the slit.
Sarah Paulson, Armani Prive

Another gown I’m not sure what to make of. I sort of love it for being different and hate it for being the way it is at the same time. Sarah Paulson dares to wear this Armani Prive tulle gown which sort of looks like a gothic bride’s wedding dress gone awry.
Mayim Bialik

I know, I know..Mayim Bialik on the Best Dressed list here? Weird. But awesome, too. This is really the best I’ve ever seen The Big Bang Theory star look.  The intricacies of the dress, the appropriateness of the sleeves, and that bold blue color. Just divine.
Jessica Pare, Lanvin

I wonder if Second City Style Editor-In-Chief Lauren Dimet Waters would agree with my choices here? We always have different tastes and I know she’s going to hate some of the Best Dressed I’ve chosen.  This Lanvin dress, with its sequined bodice and tulip skirt, looked incredible on Jessica Pare and I wonder if others feel the same.
Camila Alves, Zuhair Murad

I’m planning to include a red and white section since those colors were most prominent on the red carpet this year. However, I have to take special note of the intricate Zuhair Murad dress worn by Camila Alves. Simply stunning and perfect for her.
Michelle Dockery, Rosie Assoulin

Michelle Dockery always takes risks, and never ceases to disappoint in the fashion department. She stands out in a sea of reds and whites.
Gwen Stefani, Atelier Versace

Guess one awards show wasn’t enough! Gwen Stefani made stops at two awards shows in a row – wowing us in LAMB at the VMAs and now in Versace at the Emmy Awards. She looked stunning in both creations, naturally.
