The 2015 Tony Awards Fashion: Vanessa Hudgens, Carey Mulligan, Jennifer Lopez, Kendall Jenner, Rose Byrne, Elisabeth Moss, Ashleigh Greene

Tony Awards 2015, Red Carpet Fashion The Tony Awards were different this year, but not for the reasons you might think. Once Anna Wintour took it under her wing and sprinkled her pixie dust, it was obvious the red carpet was going to up it’s ante – different from anything we’ve ever seen on Broadway. So did her little undertaking work? Well, if you count the number of A-listers suddenly on the red carpet (and we’re not talking Carey Mulligan, Vanessa Hudgens or Helen Mirren who are actually in plays or ON Broadway) then, yes. Like seriously, what was Jennifer Lopez doing there anyway? (And looking more gorgeous than we’ve seen her in a while, might I add.) Here’s the thing though. The Tony Awards certainly got a lot more buzz, but not for the right reasons. For example, how many Broadway stars can you name that walked the red carpet? If you notice from the list below, there were not many. I know I certainly didn’t like Sutton Foster‘s look when compared to Kendall Jenner‘s. Or Bernadette Peters against Hilary Rhoda? No contest. Why couldn’t they pay more attention to the stars who deserve the royal treatment and not create buzz around the Tonys by bringing in the big names that don’t act on Broadway? Anna Wintour would argue that she was doing a service to the Tonys. But I think the only service we could really be doing to the Tonys is bringing back Neil Patrick Harris! Do you agree? Rant over. Now let’s focus on the lovely fashion that was there, and there was plenty of it. Here are the best looks on the Tony Awards red carpet last night:
Jennifer Lopez, Valentino
Jennifer Lopez in Valentino
What is Jennifer Lopez doing at the Tony Awards? Does it matter? This is a stunningly beautiful Valentino dress and I would vote her best dressed of the evening.
Carey Mulligan, Balenciaga
Carey Mulligan in Balenciaga
Love the fabric. Love the color. Love the neckline (she’s worn it before.) I would have liked to see a gown on Carey Mulligan that was a little more fitted. This Balenciaga swallows her.
Vanessa Hudgen, Naeem Khan
Vanessa Hudgens in Naeem Khan
This floral dress has a bit of the boho chic style that Vanessa Hudgens is known for and still all the elegance of a red carpet gown. I’m actually kind of surprised it was designed by Naeem Khan — a designer known more for sequins and embellishments than for a pretty feminine print.
Rose Byrne, Delpozo
Rose Byrne in Delpozo
Rose Byrne, as always, wears an elegant and straightforward silhouette with a touch of experiment. Katherine from Red Carpet Fashion Awards says she loves “how the dress successfully bridges elegance with contemporary edginess; a signature trait of Spanish designer Josep Font.” But actually I think this is a signature trait of Rose Byrne. She picked the right dress (by Delpozo).
Elisabeth Moss, Oscar de la Renta
Elisabeth Moss in Oscar de la Renta
While Jennifer Lopez may have received my vote for best dressed, I definitely think this Oscar de la Renta was my favorite dress of the evening. It’s so delicate, but colorful and Elisabeth Moss looks gorgeous in it.
Annaleigh Ashford, Zac Posen
Annaleigh Ashford in Zac Posen
I’m never a big fan of bright green, but I do love the way this Zac Posen gown fits on Annaleigh Ashford. And Zac Posen is a master at that.
Ashleigh Greene, Jason Wu
Ashley Greene in Jason Wu
While I do like this Jason Wu dress in theory, I feel like it doesn’t drape as elegantly as it should on Ashley Greene‘s beautiful, muscular frame. Great dress, but not the right dress for her. Nice color, though.
Emily Ratajkowski, Marc Jacobs
Emily Ratajkowski in Marc Jacobs
Elegant, but not subtle. And I love the criss-cross and the deep blue of this Marc Jacobs gown on Emily Ratajkowski.
Amanda Seyfried, Oscar de la Renta
Amanda Seyfried in Oscar de la Renta
Is there anything the House of Oscar de la Renta can’t do? From floral applique on Elisabeth Moss to this gorgeous off-the-shoulder jacquard mini on Amanda Seyfried – we’re still not over the loss of the man at its helm – Mr. Oscar de la Renta himself.
Rita Wilson, Tom Ford
Rita Wilson in Tom Ford
I think Rita Wilson looks absolutely stunning – and really, does Tom Ford ever disappoint?
Ivanka Trump. Prabal Gurung gow
Ivanka Trump in Prabal Gurung
Romantic, modest, elegant, but with a stunning print. This Prabal Gurung gown on Ivanka Trump is divine.
Laura Bell Bundy
Laura Bell Bundy
Laura Bell Bundy, one of the few Broadway actresses that stood out for me, though not in comparison to people like J.Lo. Other Broadway standouts were Bernadette Peters and Kelli O’Hara.
Ashley Tisdale, Solace London
Ashley Tisdale in Solace London
We’ve seen the top before, but not with a pantsuit. Ashley Tisdale can pull it off, but the Solace London pantsuit is not my favorite look of the night. Still, it was nice of her to be here, to show support for BFF Vanessa.
Taylor Schilling, Michael Kors
Taylor Schilling in Michael Kors
This dress is asymmetrically cut in front to make way for the back, which is all skin! I have mixed feelings on this Michael Kors dress on Taylor Schilling. Part of me wants to congratulate her for taking such a big risk and the other wants to slap some sense into her. OK, maybe that’s a bit harsh but something is off about this whole thing.
Hilary Rhoda, Michael Kors
Hilary Rhoda in Michael Kors
Another cutout Michael Kors, but one that was way cooler was on model Hilary Rhoda.
Ruth Wilson, Ralph Lauren Gown, Red Carpet
Ruth Wilson in Ralph Lauren
A lot of fashion critics have been raving about this look – because of its boxy, no nonsense shape and the way it drops low without a belt to cut the look as it was styled on the runway. I, however, don’t love this Ralph Lauren dress because I think it takes away from Ruth Wilson‘s femininity and elongates her torso too much. I might be wrong though and the color is one to remember.
Patricia Clarkson
Patricia Clarkson
Demure, elegant, eye-popping but not over-the-top. Love the beautiful elegance and subtlety of this gown on Patricia Clarkson. The shoes were a miss though.
Kendall Jenner, Calvin Klein
Kendall Jenner in Calvin Klein
Again, what is Kendall Jenner doing at the Tony Awards this year? We’re still scratching our heads in wonder. Not loving this weirdly coral Calvin Klein minidress either, but hey, it’s Kendall. She’s a “thing” right now.
Kathy Najimy
Kathy Najimy
Is that you Kathy Najimy? A completely different person.
Alan Cumming Kristen Chenoweth
Hosts: Alan Cumming, Kristen Chenoweth
And our outrageously gorgeous hosts Alan Cumming (in Lucio Castro) and Kristen Chenoweth. They’re no Neil Patrick Harris (even combined) but I think they did a splendid and commendable job. And they didn’t seem to be trying too hard. They were just acting like themselves, with a few zingers thrown in. COLOR TRENDS White
Helen Mirren, Badgley Mischka
Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka
Helen Mirren was certainly the queen of the night, as she always is! She looks stunning in Badgley Mischka and she won a Tony!
Misty Copeland, Herve Leger
Misty Copeland in Herve Leger
Killer body as always. Misty Copeland is stunning in this intricate white Herve Leger number.
Jennifer Grey

Bella Hadid, Prabal Gurung, Tony Awards, Red Carpet
Bella Hadid in Prabal Gurung
The story goes that Anna Wintour brought the models in haute couture in order to class up the red carpet. Well Gigi wasn’t there, but Bella Hadid sure was. While Bella is certainly stunning, is anyone else of the opinion that if she dyes her hair blonde, she’ll be as popular as her sister. I’m not sure why but the dark hair is dull on her.

Debra Messing, Zac Posen
Debra Messing in Zac Posen
Though I often think Debra Messing takes things too far, I’m kind of a fan of her smoky, dramatic eyemakeup and this eggplant Zac Posen number. It’s a winner in my book.
Anna Chlumsky, Sophie Theallet
Anna Chlumsky in Sophie Theallet
Well, it’s the same halter neckline as Debra Messing. I’m not sure why. Nevertheless, more stars need to start wearing this beautiful deep purple color like Anna Chlumsky in Sophie Theallet. – Simona Kogan Photos: Yahoo Style, eOnline
