Swimming—or just being on the beach, in a pool, or otherwise—is one of the best parts of summer for many of us, but figuring out what swimsuits, cover-ups, and other pieces to wear can be quite a challenge, especially for women on the better side of 40.
After all, you may want to highlight and downplay certain areas, or show off your shape without looking like you’re trying too hard. Plus we all need protection from the sun—and you probably still want to be able to actually swim in your suit, not just relax by the pool (although that’s perfectly fine too). Here are some of the top 2025 swimwear trends for women over 50.
2025 Swimwear Trends for Women Over 50

One Shoulder
Not only is an asymmetrical look very on-trend, a single shoulder top is also quite flattering since it draws the eye around the body versus straight up and down. Combine that with a bold pattern and shirring in all the right places and you have a statement-making suit like this one from La Blanca.

Strategic Textures
A bit of knit, mesh, or other interesting texture can be a great modern detail that you can use to sculpt and highlight your figure how you see fit. This not-so-basic little black suit from White House Black Market does this perfectly.

High Waists
If you are comfortable in a two piece, a higher waist bottom paired with whatever style of top works best can be a great option. Plus it’s often easier to find bikini tops in bra sizing if you prefer that. We’re fans of this striped two piece from Vitamin A for a sleek contemporary look, or this knotted front Robin Piccone bikini that looks casual, comfy and cool.

Swimwear Trends 2025: Back Views
For many of us, an open back or one with fun strappy details is an area we are still comfortable putting on display. Nobody does sexy swimwear for a grown woman quite like Norma Kamali (we love the black, but the yellow is very on-trend) and this strappy back one-piece from Lido is just classic.

Beach Pants
Flowy or breezy pants are a great vacation layer—treat a one-piece swimsuit like a bodysuit and pair it with pants like these tie-front wide legs by Summersalt for a coordinated, put-together look that can easily go to lunch or dinner beachside.

Swimwear Trends: Sleeved Swimsuits
Basic rash guards are practical, there’s no doubt. But there are way more stylish ways to get some extra coverage this summer, with plenty of swimsuits with sleeves popping up in stores like this belted style by Sea Level that will have you feeling like a Bond girl.
