Rodarte Won't Be Getting Credit for Black Swan

Who could forget the anticipation of knowing that Rodarte's Kate and Laura Mulleavy were designing the costumes for Black Swan? So, with award season in full force and the movie being nominated all over the place for Best Costume Design, where have they been?

The Mulleavy sisters created 40 costumes for the movie but Amy Westcott will take the create as she received the "front credit" as costume designer for the film. The Mulleavy sisters will only receive a backend credit. Fox Searchlight reportedly wanted to submit Westcott and the Mulleavy sisters for Oscar consideration, but guild rules dictate that only the front credit designer is eligible.

It could be the case that Kate and Laura Mulleavy just didn't understand what the system was all about and didn't negotiate credits in their initial deal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they were "naive about movies", as well as non-members of the Costume Design Guild when they worked on the film. Since then, the Mulleavys have given up that fight… but looking to work on outside projects with the credit they deserve. “Now the sisters are repped by WME and seeking movie projects outside of producing the chic Rodarte line–and this time they want their names up front,” according to THR.
