By now you've surely heard that Elizabeth Taylor passed away early this morning from congestive heart failure at age 79 and now, the whole world is mourning a timeless movie star, a tireless philanthropist and a fearless fashion icon. With achievements in her career of over five decades including 5 Academy Award nominations, 2 Academy Awards for Best Actress, 1 special Academy Award for her humanitarian efforts and $100 million raised for AIDS research, its easy to see why Elizabeth Taylor defined the term "class act".

She was on par with Marilyn Monroe in terms of beauty and glamour, had best friends like Rock Hudson and James Dean back then and Elton John and the late Michael Jackson today, and has been bringing men to their knees over her lavender-hued eyes and raven hair for the past 50 years. On top of all that, she was a fierce advocate for gay rights, well before it was en vogue and dedicated countless hours and dollars toward finding an HIV vaccine. And everything that she did, she did it beautifully and immaculately styled for the world to see.

Harper's Bazaar takes a commendable retrospective on the woman who played "Cleopatra" (and who took home the first ever 7 figure salary for the role) on some of her memorable looks on and off the screen. And as we say good-bye to one of the last true movie stars, her memory may best be honored in the words of her son Michael Wilding, "We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts."
