Just in time for summer, SkinCeuticals has introduced Physical Eye UV Defense SPF 50. Surprisingly, it’s the brand’s first SPF 50 broad spectrum, mineral eye base specifically designed to defend the delicate eye area from the damaging effects of UV exposure. It’s currently the highest SPF protective product for eyes on the market to date.
Skin around the eye is one of the first areas to show signs of premature aging from overexposure to the sun. According to Dr. Julie Woodward, Chief of Oculofacial Surgery at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, “The skin around the eyes should not be ignored because it is ten times thinner than facial skin, making it significantly more susceptible to UV damage. In fact, the eye area represents less than 1% of total body skin, yet skin cancers found in the eye lid region account for 10% of all skin cancers. Most alarming is that skin cancers in the eye area typically spread far more quickly than others due to the unique structure of the eye area, making this an important area of skin to protect.”
SkinCeuticals Physical Eye UV Defense SPF 50 utilizes 100% mineral filters, Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, which offer broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection while being vigorously tested to ensure it does not irritate all skin types, even those with sensitive eyes and contact-lens-wearers. Additionally, this all-mineral sunscreen formula won’t migrate into eyes, which can cause irritation. It has a universal tint to unify skin tone under the eye, providing a canvas for smoother makeup application. The product also contains ceramides to nourish the delicate skin for added comfort.
I have been a fan of SkinCeuticals for years so that I now use this eye defense daily is no surprise. I like that it has a bit of color so I don’t have stark white under my eyes. Who wants raccoon eyes? It blends perfectly with my under eye concealer and I even use it on my lids (can’t forget those). Now I don’t have to worry about the delicate skin there exposed to the sun’s harmful rays.
