Creative Directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim showed their Monse collection right before the debut of their Oscar de la Renta NYFW Fall 17 Collection. While I loved the innovation, tailoring, edginess and ‘coolness’ of Monse, it was Oscar de la Renta that stood out for me. I think Oscar de la Renta would be thrilled with this collection! The designers worked with him for years before his death, although the creative director job initially went to Peter Copping. But Garcia and Kim know the man and the brand much better and added some freshness to the classic ODLR collection.

The very opening look made me take note. It was a perfect loosely tailored black pantsuit cinched at the waist with a gorgeous gardenia belt. I decided at that moment I would wear this look everywhere, every day, from day to night to weddings and funerals, and would always look just right. Next I was attracted to the oversize coats, 3/4 and maxi in bold bright jewel tone colors. And true to Oscar de la Renta were the evening looks, the fitted ball gowns, and the black and white print that were Oscar de la Renta’s very own signature (literally). The one shoulder looks were so beautifully designed, perfectly fitted with curved necklines with not one stitch out of place. The sequin strapless evening gowns will be ideal for younger women and I was thrilled to see so many pant options for evening, as I’m sure did all of their customers. I can’t wait to see what’s ahead for next season!
