Nicole Miller has risen to the highest ranks of American ready-to-wear. Her designs serve as the perfect choice for women of all walks of life, from career woman to lady who lunches. Cocktail and day dresses, casual suiting, outerwear and separates are a mainstay in all of her collections, each being timeless yet modern and can be worn season after season.
Her SS16 collection offered us a refreshing take on easy pieces inspired by street art and were crafted in bold geometric prints and bright colors with bases of black and white. There wasn’t a single piece in the collection that could not translate into everyday life, with separates like bold printed pants, cold shoulder flouncy blouses, breezy sporty slacks and a handful of lightweight jackets and blazers that I’d give my right arm for. Not to mention her signature cocktail dresses that can translate seamlessly from day-to-night.
The color story was fun and playful without being too young, featuring graffiti-esque prints in red, blue, green and yellow, slate grey, bold black, white prints and the occasional pop of electric blue and olive green. Not straying away from the floral trend that we’ve seen all over the runways for SS16, Miller’s looks played with floral details in a way that offered a great layer of dimension but not overshadowing the street art inspired prints that anchored the collection.
Some of my favorite looks included the slate gray cold shoulder jumpsuit, the electric blue sheer shirt with floral print paired with the black wide leg athletic strip pants, and the sequins psychedelic print column dress.
