New York Fashion Week Spring ’13: Katie Gallagher's Forever Calm and Peaceful Styles

Summary: Rising fashion star Katie Gallagher made her Fashion Week debut with her Spring 2010 collection. Since then, she has been creating quite an exciting buzz with each new season. Her Spring-Summer 2013 collection, entitled “Everything Forever,” was “an ode to the remnants of our past, which are ingrained in us and ever present.”
Gallagher uses a neutral color palette to bring attention to intricate details in her design. A crème body-conscience dress gets an upgrade a geometric-cut neckline and a simplistic ivory lady-like a-line dress had the audience doing double takes with its intricate back cutouts.
Gallagher’s use of heavy fabrics such as lambskin and kangaroo leather is balanced with the cascading, sheer draping of silks. She adds the occasional peplum and enlarged pleating detailing to tops and dresses, once again bringing the unexpected to neutral styles. Gallagher’s subtle color scheme and use of gentle fabrics, coupled with Ella Joyce Buckley’s live musical performance,  brought a zen-like peace to the room. In one word, her collection was: calm.
Colors: Ivory, cream, various shades of grey, and nude paired with black.
Key Looks: Ivory a-line dress with cutouts; Cream high-low dress with geometric neckline; Black high-waisted bathing suit with hooded cover-up.
