Summary: When fishnets are mentioned in fashion, your first thought might be fishnet tights paired with a super short mini skirt. True, the fabric hasn’t had the classiest reputation in the fashion world. Which is exactly why Reem Acra’s Fall 2013 collection was such a surprise hit.
A recent visit to Japan served as the primary inspiration for Acra’s latest collection. The oriental essence can be instantly spotted in small details just as mandarin silk collars on dress, Japanese floral embroideries on column gowns, and kimono-style tweed coats. The ability to be sexy without limiting the imagination is always a difficult task for a designer. Acra was able to keep the femininity of her dresses with a body-con silhouette, accenting a particular leather dress with a twisted front.
What’s really got people is Acra’s ability to use fish in such a luxurious way. A black embroidered fishnet gown with tulle drop skirt floated effortless down the runway. Layers and layers of the peek-a-boo fabric provided enough illusion for an upscale look. Indeed this is one collection many celebrities may want to keep in mind  for the remaining awards season.
Textures and Fabrics: Tulle, twee, goat hair, silk crepe, nutria fur, wool, leather, and details of beaded embroidery.
Colors: Black, red, ivory, with hints of silver and gold.
Key Looks: Ivory tulle ball gown with black embroidered detail; Silver and gold hand embroidered black and white column gown; Black mandarin collar silk crepe dress with a red and black ombre goat hair coat; and Black embroidered gown with fishnet overlay.
