Macy's Glamorama: Pop Candy Arcade. Jamming Out To The 80s In 2008.

Every year in Chicago, Macy’s (used to be a Marshall Field’s event, sniff!) puts on a fabulous event that celebrates the union between fashion and music, benefiting The Art Institute of Chicago. This year was no exception, with a party that took guests back to the eighties in style.

Cyndi Lauper and MC Hammer (yes, you read that right – MC Hammer is still rockin’ it) performed amidst a series of mini-shows from designers that included Marc Jacobs, Roberto Cavalli, and Donna Karan.  Everything was set to classic eighties tunes, and Cyndi herself even belted out "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" to close the show.

Some of Second City Style‘s favorite pieces included a slinky leopard print Cavalli number, intricately draped jersey gowns by Donna Karan, and some truly luscious cashmere coats from Celine.  The guys were not left out of the party either, appearing on the runway in some fantastic ensembles – our favorites were the industrial chic leather jackets from Costume National and the preppy-with-an-edge styles from Tommy Hilfiger.

Of course, the Glamorama crowd at the afterparty at Macy’s was equally stylish.

Krista and Lesley – very pulled together!

Meghan and Marsha – today’s dresses with some 80’s color!

We envied how Martha pulled off this jumpsuit, and of course, loved the shoes!

Triceandleah
Trice and Leah went all out on the theme in leggings and neon!

Plenty of attendees went for 80s throwbacks (lots of neon, drop-waist dresses, and lacy leggings were on hand), however, even more went for more modern looks in bold jewel tones, bright prints, and seriously tall platform shoes.

Overall, Glamorama was totally rad!

  1. Biggest waste of money in History. I went expecting to see Cyndi Lauper Perform and only got two lousey songs. What a waste. At $75 a ticket I expected a hour plus out of her. After all she was the headliner and her name was in bold on the ticket. Instead I got a rather boring fashion show and 2 stinking songs. Thanks for nothing Macy’s. Just like your stores this show was a complete pile of crap.
