How To Dress 15 Years Younger: It's In The Jeans

FAshion Over 40, Jeans
Once we hit 40, we all want to look younger – but not like someone trying to look younger. To successfully dress younger, you should be aware of latest trends, know which ones to skip (I’ll tell you right now, you will be skipping many…) and which trends will fit you and your personal style.
Women close to my same age always ask me “What’s in style?” and a big concern they have is “What style of jeans should I be wearing?” Although it is a loaded question, I’m happy when I hear it because wearing jeans (at all) is a step towards looking younger! Women dread the term “Mom Jeans” even though they became a trend last year, so maybe we should shave kept our high waisted “reverse” 80s denim? Nope! Mom Jeans looked best on women who never wore them the first time around!
To answer the question about which jeans will make you look younger, the goal is to find a pair your daughter would find acceptable – if she were 20 years older! Think “dignified trend” when you shop for jeans.
A few things to avoid: Tears, holes, deconstruction, destroyed, stone washed, embellished pockets, studs, embroidery, patchwork, bleaching, too much whiskering, extra low rises and extra tight fits. There are always exceptions to every fashion rule, of course! You definitely have to try on several styles of jeans, decide how you are going to wear them and know what look is right for you.
Here are the best six spring ’15 jeans silhouettes that are modern and “on-trend” but won’t make you look like you raided your daughter’s closet.
Current/Elliott The Fling Jeans

This style is great for most figures. Avoid super-destroyed, or extremely oversized boyfriend jeans. These Current/Elliott The Fling Jeans, $208 have a noice even wash and are tear-free! I have two pairs of these jeans (denim and white) and wear them all the time in spring and summer. They run big so you can go down a size!
Vince Cropped jeans
Cropped Relaxed Skinny
I’m so glad there is this option. Cropped can be tricky and make you look older (think pedal pushers!) and skinny jeans are on their way out. However there is still a need for a slim look and cropped jeans are a great solution instead of wearing (I dread) shorts in summer. The relaxed look is on-trend, more flattering to most women and more comfortable, too! These Vince Mason Relaxed Rolled Jeans in Optic White, $220 also come in black. You can adjust to the most flattering length on you because they have a roll hem, too!
MiH Marrakesh Kick Flare Jeans
You may have worn these before and they were pretty flattering, right? A higher waist flare pant gives you more options with tops, and highlight a slim waistline. The MiH Marrakesh Kick Flare Jeans, $189 are popular year after year for good reason. You will look hot! The flare starting over the knee hides a multitude of leg flaws and with high wedge shoes, they give you the look of longer legs and less pounds. I have a pair of these and if you are between sizes, size up! Flare jeans are right on trend (once again) with this seasons 70s looks.
J Brand Sabine High Waisted Flare Jeans
Wide Leg
Another option if you aren’t so into the 70s or an extreme flare is the wide leg style. J Brand’s Sabine High Waisted Flare Jeans, $228 may be an easier fit for you if you like pants a little looser in the hips and seat.
Joe's Jeans, Curvy Bootcut Jeans (Rikki)
Bootcut are always an availble option, if you like a narrower flare. Bootcut styles are tighter around the knees, so these work better on slimmer legged women. You really need to try them on to see how they fit you. Try Joe’s Curvy Bootcut Jeans (Rikki), $158.
GAP 1969 Real Straight Jean
Straight LegFAshion Over 40

You can still be on trend and totally not look like you are trying too hard with a simple straight leg pair of jeans. It think everyone should (at least) have a classic 5 pocket pair like these GAP 1969 Real Straight Jeans, $69.95.
