It’s September and the kids are back in school, summer work hours are over and the stores are chock full of new fall fashion! But it’s 200 degrees out (yes, really!) but it doesn’t quite look right to wear white sandals, eyelet, summer neon colors and Lilly Pulitzer prints. This kind of weather may hold on through October, too! So what are we supposed to wear?
Thank goodness for dresses! They are the foolproof way to stay cool and still look age (and business) appropriate. So don’t put away your summer dresses just yet! In the front of your closet keep loose fitting woven or cotton knit dresses in denim, white, black, khaki, gem tones, neutrals or (the now on-trend) dark floral prints. Now comes the fun part. You know those Nubuck sandals or open toe booties that you love but look too dark and heavy to wear in July? You can wear them now! They made such a big deal of spring suede, which let’s face it, really works better in fall and now (bonus for you) you can find suede and lightweight dresses on sale!
Styling Tip: Here’s what to wear. Simply “toughen up” your summer dresses with fall colors, in suede or leather with your shoes, handbags and (if you can bear to wear) belts during these final days of sweltering hot summer, when you wish you could dress for fall.
