Designer Dish. The English National Ballet Receives High Fashion Takes on the Tutu

Clearly, the ballet has an influence. At least that’s what one would think judging from the impressive array of world-renown designers who participated in a new collaborative project with the English National Ballet. Designers such as Giles Deacon, Julien Macdonald and Roksanda Ilincic signed themselves up to create their take on the classic ballet tutu, an icon of the timeless dance. Having reign over the color, length and style, each participating designer in the project infused some individual innovation into the costume piece—and the results are breathtaking.

“I think that the tutu is one of the most beautiful pieces of clothing invented and I was honoured by the request from an institution as prestigious as the English National Ballet,” Moschino’s creative director Rossella Jardini told Vogue UK. “It came naturally because the pearl-and-queen button embroidery are typically English and I have always found them beautiful.”In addition to Moschino, Kinger Aggugini, Agent Provocateur, Beatrix Ong and even Christian Louboutin created confections for the collection.
