Nordstrom Michigan Avenue was buzzing the excitement Thursday night. Michael and Nicole Colovos, the creative directors of Helmut Lang and husband and wife design team, were mingling with guests, taking photos and giving style advice to women trying on their fabulous pieces. Helmut Lang is known for minimal, easy pieces made with luxurious fabrics. The clothes featured at the event were no exception and included buttery leather jackets and leggings, sheer tops made of the softest fabric, Asian inspired boxy jackets, flattering body-hugging dresses, and plenty of versatile knit sweaters, “that you can wear like T-shirt,” the design duo said.
Michael Colovos was kind enough to take some time to chat with us about the brand where they have been creative directors for the last seven years. Micheal is into the math, details and structure of each piece while Nicole actually tries them on to work the best fit and proportions for women. That’s a winning combination! “The clothes we design are architectural, yet flattering.” Michael told us. “Nicole and I each have our strengths and this works because we collaborate together on every piece. Women should wear the clothing, clothing shouldn’t wear the women.” We couldn’t agree more!
