Best of the Cannes Film Festival 2013 Red Carpet: Nicole Kidman, Milla Jovovich, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Marion Cotillard and More
The Cannes Film Festival may be better known for its films than its fashion but the annual event is also known for bringing out the best of the red carpet as celebrities, models, designers, directors, screenwriters, and film stars. There, they showcase high fashion at its finest throughout the various photocalls, events, parties, and that red carpet at the Palais des Festivals leading up to the biggest movie premieres in town including The Great Gatsby, Hunger Games, and Blood Ties. L’Oreal, the ‘it’ makeup company for the Cannes Film Festival, has its ambassadors on hand and companies like FashionTV and DeGrisogono throw lavish and magical parties.
This year, fashion was definitely at an all-time high with fashionistas like Nicole Kidman on the jury panel, the Indian film world represented by people like Freida Pinto and Aishwarya Rai, and stars like Doutzen Kroes, Jennifer Lawrence, Marion Cotillard, Jessica Chastain, and Sharon Stone in town. Though hundreds of designer were represented — many of the fashionistas chose Christian Dior, Emilio Pucci, and Roberto Cavalli for their drop dead gorgeous gowns.
Others stars, including Carey Mulligan and Barbara Palvin, went for risk-taking looks like tuxedos for women, mod minidresses, or statement dresses with cutouts.
The Cannes Film Festival always brings with it fashion glory and this year knocked the 66-year running annual event on its head. Which dress was your favorite?
This is probably my favorite dress of the entire Cannes Film Festival so far and it appeared on the first day of the festivities. Nicole Kidman just amazes me sometimes. Also, having that body at that age doesn’t hurt.
What impressed me about this dress (besides the fact that Fan Bingbing can make anything look amazing) is that she has a tradition of wearing Asian traditional looks to the first day of the Cannes Film Festival and she changed it up this year, opting for something much more ladylike but still unbelievably gorgeous. She also rocked it in Elie Saab.
One of the few times we saw Dolce & Gabbana on the red carpet, but what an unbelievable dress for Sonam Kapoor.
What an amazing color on this lovely lady.
Zuhair Murad was the choice for many music stars at the Billboard Music Awards 2013 but I’m surprised to see him here in Cannes as well. There were tons of sequins and sparkle on the red carpet, though.
Leave it to Carey Mulligan to do something just a little bit different, turning up in this black and white Vionnet gown with a slit and interesting keyhole details. The look is minimal, and it’s still one of the best looks on the red carpet and totally her personal style.
Emma Watson also goes for the black and white, outshining her co-stars in a Chanel Couture dress with black embroidered bodice and off-white silk skirt.
Valentino was a good choice for Zoe Saldana, but certainly not one I’m used to from her.
I love how Petra Nemcova‘s hair complements her 70s disco Emilio Pucci and pulls the whole look together. I think it would look off if her hair was stick straight as usual.
Aishwarya Rai is not stick thin, but she never ceases to impress me with her fashion.
Loving the higher hems on these dresses worn by Dita von Teese and Marion Cotillard, though I never expected Marion to go so mod!
Another one of my favorite looks for the evening as Milla Jovovich looks flawless and it was totally the right idea to rim her eyes with black liner.
