Beauty Scents: My Top 5 Summer Fragrance Picks

I realize choosing fragrances is very personal. That’s why I really never buy a fragrance as a gift unless I know for certain it’s a favorite of the receiver. The ones I don’t like I just give to my mother anyway. She’ll wear anything. Me? Not even close. Summer fragrances tend to be my favorites since I prefer light floral or clean scents. In fact, I wear them all year. I just hoard my summer collection. So which fragrances am I coveting now? Here are my 5 favorite fragrances for Summer 2012:
1. BVLGARI Omnia Coral Eau de Toilette 1.33 oz., $64
I love this scent because it is like nothing I have ever worn before and it makes me smile. This floral-fruity eau de toilette, has notes of Bergamot, Goji Berries, Hibiscus Flower, Water Lily, Pomegranate, Cedar Wood.  It is surprisingly light and smells like summer, or a beach vacation.

2. Calvin Klein Eternity Aqua for Women Eau De Toilette, 1.7 oz., $57
If you love the smell of an ocean breeze, then this is the scent for you! It’s feminine in a very natural way and as my husband has commented, rather sexy. This clean scent has notes of White Peony, Crisp Pink Lady Apple, Cucumber Water, Apricot Pulp, Tiare, Magnolia, Gardenia, Jasmine, Sundrenched Woods, Cedarwood and Transparent Musk.
3. Limited-Edition Stella McCartney Summer Rose Eau De Toilette, 3.3 oz, $62
I am a sucker for rose scents. So when I tested this at Sephora last month, I couldn’t get it off my mind. I wandered into a different location to purchase it and was totally annoyed when that particular Sephora didn’t have it. So the next day I went back to the original location and bought the last bottle. Now it’s online. Every year Stella McCartney reinvents her namesake fragrance with lush new notes, creating a limited-edition take on her iconic original rose scent (which I wore years ago and have since tired of). Stella’s Summer Rose is enriched with a natural organic rose, grown by the ECOCERT awarded cooperative in the Persian mountains. It smells similar, yet different (more rose-y) than the original. Notes are of Bulgarian Rose, Frosted lemon, Granny smith apple, Fresh Peony, Dadès Rose Absolute, Celestial Rose, Amber.
4. Vera Wang Lovestruck Floral Rush Eau de Parfum, 3.4 oz, $78
This past winter I wore the original Vera Wang Lovestruck scent to death so I was more than happy to try the floral summer version. Vera Wang Lovestruck Floral Rush is a very feminine sparkling floral bouquet mixed with notes of sparkling champagne accord, apricot blossom and pink passion flower. Add in a little sheer musk and you get the idea. It’s brand new, so fall in love with Lovestruck Floral Rush too.
5. Versace Yellow Diamond Eau de Toilette, 1 oz., $50
I typically find Versace perfumes about as subtle as a hurricane, so when the perfume advisor at Sephora suggested I try a whiff when I asked what was new I looked at him like he was nuts and initially resisted. Yet, I have to admit, I’m glad I listened to him. I do NOT consider myself a Versace girl in any way shape or form, but I do surprisingly like this scent. In fact, I left with a sample. New for Spring 2012 is this scent that’s as pure as sunlight and just as bright. Think of a vivid floral mixed with citron, fresh pear sorbet, sparkling bergamot, and an accent of neroli. When it dries down you will smell orange blossoms,  freesia and mimosa. It was so captivating, I actually went back and bought it too.
