Look out for the “traveling Roo” as Aussie Takes Over Chicago, at least through June! Aussie Celebrity Stylist Sarah Potempa was at Pioneer Court last weekend kicking off the events at Aussie’s pop-up styling booth and lounge. She showed guests how to get great hair with little time or effort. It seems a little unfair, so Aussie calls it “Unfair Hair.”
I had the opportunity to have my hair styled by Sarah and to learn more about how she became Aussie’s Celebrity Stylist. Sarah is a native of the Chicago area, she grew up in Libertyville! She told me she was always creative, she took art classes in high school and worked at a hair salon when she was 15. The owner would show her styling photos in magazines, and her reaction was “Yes, OK, that’s nice.” Little did she realize at the time she would wind up doing just that: editorial hair styling shoots. She went to school in New York and started working at a hair salon there. She was styling New York Fashion Week shows when someone suggested she get an agent. That led to more and more editorial shoots and styling celebrities such as Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Emmy Rossum, Lea Michele and Jamie King. Today she has her own line of Sarah Potempa Beauty Tools that make styling your own hair easy.

I asked Sarah if there is such a thing as beauty “product snobbery” and she laughed. “Aussie products are fabulous. It is amazing the prices are so low (most are around $3.59), but that’s because it is a huge company with the money to conduct a lot research, so they make great products. All of the Aussie products are very light and work on many different hair types.”

Sarah used some of her favorite products on my hair, like Aussie Sprunch Mousse and Hairspray. I love the Aussie Shine Hair Spray. Sarah showed me how she sprays it into a brush and then distributes it into hair. Now I use this trick. Sarah and her team gave out styling tips on how to do fishtail braids, milkmaid braids, top knots, side buns, beach waves and bouncy volume.
