Last Wednesday Barneys New York supported The Service Club of Chicago with a cocktail party at the Oak Street store along with designer and founder of Aquazzura, Edgardo Osorio. I’ve become a huge fan of his footwear so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet him. Take a look at his collection and you will understand why he has such a cult-like following. He manages to combine sexiness with comfort, luxury and timelessness. After chatting with him now I know which styles I want for myself!
SCS:When I hear the name Aquazzura I think of beautiful strappy high heel sandals in soft leathers and suedes. I also think of trends I feel you started years ago, such as the lace-up styles we are now seeing everywhere.EO: When I design I never think it will become trendy. I designed the lace-ups because I personally like how they look. I like shoes that are sexy and the lace-up fit well and can adapt to your feet.
SCS:Which comes first? The footwear design or do you look at fashion to inspire your designs?EO: I actually look at the woman. I have many girlfriends who wear my shoes. I like using social media, so I see where they are going and what they wear with my shoes. I design shoes that can be worn from day to night.
SCS:I notice (thankfully) you offer some lower heels 3″ or under and they look just as sexy as the 4-1/2″ tall stilettos.EO: We cater to many different women of all ages and tastes, so we always have 3 versions of each: flats, mid-heels and high heels.
SCS:What 3 Aquazurra shoe styles do you think every woman needs for spring ’16?EO: 1. A chic statement flat- a date night flat! 2. The open toe bootie – there’s one with 3 cut outs that can be worn with a cocktail dress or jeans. 3. A sexy strappy sandal for summer.
