I was browsing online for new spring fashion when I came across a pair of shorts that were referred to as “jorts.” I thought… these are actually shorts I might wear — even though I once vowed to never wear them again.
So what are jorts? You’ve got it — they’re jeans + shorts (although we used to simply call them jean shorts). The term “jorts” has become a fashion buzzword over the past couple of seasons as longer, looser denim shorts started trending again. They have become controversial —If the proportions are off they can look ridiculous and like you are trying too hard.
Yes, I may be a little late to the trend — but I don’t care whether something is trending as much as whether it’s something I actually want to wear.

Jorts are still showing up everywhere this season, and for good reason. They’re comfortable, practical and surprisingly flattering.

Jorts technically come in a variety of lengths and widths, but the style I’m loving most for women over 50 is the higher-waisted, medium-wide leg version that hits just above the knee — like the pair I spotted at Shopbop.
Are Jorts in Style in 2026?
Yes, jorts are still in style for 2026. The newest versions feature longer lengths, relaxed legs, and mid-to high-rise waists inspired by 90s denim. The newer jorts are more wearable than the ultra-short styles of the past, which is why they’re becoming a popular option for women of all ages — especially if you prefer long denim shorts with a bit more coverage.
Why I Recommend Jorts for Women Over 50
The right pair of jorts can actually be incredibly flattering. Here’s why I’m warming up to them:
- The just-above-the-knee length tends to be flattering for most women.
- They offer a bit more coverage, making them feel comfortable and age-appropriate.
- The wider leg silhouette keeps them cool and comfortable in warmer weather.
- Because they’re styled like jeans, you get real pockets for things like a credit card, ID or lip gloss.
- Patch back pockets can also be surprisingly flattering.
- Denim cotton makes them feel substantial, but still soft and comfortable — almost like wearing your favorite pair of jeans.
Best Jorts for Women Over 50 in 2026
Here are a few jorts styles I’m loving right now:
I recommend looking for mid-to high-rise waists, longer inseams, and slightly wider legs. These silhouettes feel the most modern and flattering — especially if you want a pair that’s comfortable but still looks polished.

I like this classic medium wash style from Levis.

This light wash pair has gentle barrel shaping and hits just above the knee.

Try this silhouette in place of your next pair of white jeans or pants this summer.

You may like to invest in a stylish pair like these from AG, with strategically placed panels and shading for a flattering look. The raw hem is subtle and chic.
How to Style Jorts

All kidding aside, the beauty of jorts is that you can style them just like jeans.
You can wear them with sneakers, flats, wedges, or even heels. I like to think of them almost like a casual skirt — something you can dress up or down depending on the rest of your outfit.
Pair them with:
- a classic t-shirt
- a crisp button-front shirt
- a lightweight cotton sweater
If you need a layer, try a short blazer, bomber jacket, or cropped cardigan.

Personally, I would style this pair with chunkier heel sandals, a slim-cut tee to balance the wider leg silhouette, a belt, and a few bold pieces of jewelry to pull everything together.

You can wear them they are jorts- not shorts.
I laughed at the “do not recommend look” and liked how you styled the look.
