Golden Globes 2026 Red Carpet Fashion: Top Trends That Ruled the Night

Ah, the 83rd annual Golden Globes! The incredible actors Timothee Chalamet, Rose Byrne, and Jean Smart all won, but here’s what the event made really clear: There’s a change happening in red carpet style. Gowns are shifting away from bold colors and dramatic silhouettes (though some still appeared) toward embroidery, texture and illusion.

Across the evening’s most talked-about looks, designers leaned into sheer nude foundations layered with intricate embroidery, beadwork, lace and sequins, creating gowns that felt almost suspended from the body.

Rather than relying on volume or overt structure, many dresses used ornamentation as architecture, shaping the figure through floral appliqué, baroque scrollwork, and densely beaded patterns. The result was a red carpet defined by depth and detail up close, but an effortless, fluid elegance from afar.

And sure there were a few sculpted looks (Arianna Grande), a few crazy colors (Rose Byrne’s bright green Chanel), and a whole lot of black and white but these gowns didn’t define the night.

From liquid-metal shimmer to modern lace and botanical embroidery, this year’s Golden Globes signaled a shift toward craftsmanship-driven glamour, where fabric and embellishment do the heavy lifting. Let’s see what the fashionistas wore:

Illusion Mesh / Nude Base Dressing

Illusion mesh was the foundation fabric of the night. Nearly invisible, highly technical, and body-skimming, it was like second skin that let the embellishment “float.”

This might just be the best JLaw has ever looked!

Not my favorite look of the night, but she certainly nailed the trend.

Kathy Bates in Sareh Khajehnouri

A little prom dressy but for Kathy Bates it’s a personal best.

Michelle Williams in Oscar de la Renta

Jaw-Dropping Sequins

Leighton Meester in Miu Miu

Hands down one of the best looks of the night!

Dakota Fanning in Gucci
Natasha Lyonne in Valentino
Tessa Thompson in Balenciaga

I hate the color, but she wears that dress! (It doesn’t wear her.)

This almost went on the Worst Dressed list but knowing Jenna Ortega, I guess it kinda makes sense? We needed a little waking up on the red carpet.

I really loved this dress. Not even sure this photo does it justice.

And of course…there’s always more than a few names on Worst Dressed list. Unfortunately the first one is the host herself Nikki Glaser. She changed 9 times during the awards ceremony. Unfortunately, the cupcake dress she wore on the red carpet was the worst one.

Audrey Nuna in Thom Browne

I love a good fashion risk as much as the next person but this isn’t the Met Gala. I would have preferred a statement gown.

Zoe Kravitz in Saint Laurent

Not sure what was up with this lingerie fashion moment but I didn’t love it

Miley Cyrus in Saint Laurent

Yeah, Saint Laurent definitely wasn’t having a moment.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Armani Prive

Could have been a gorgeous gown. Unfortunately the fit is all wrong.

Whether you loved the sheer illusion gowns or missed the drama of old-school red carpet glamour, one thing’s clear: the Golden Globes marked a shift toward fashion that rewards craftsmanship up close—and elegance from afar.
