You may or may not love Valentine’s Day, but you still might want an excuse to dress up for the occasion. (I think sometimes it’s just fun to style an outfit!) This post was originally published on January 9, 2026, and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I’m sharing it again for anyone looking for a little outfit inspiration. With that in mind, I put together a classic Valentine’s Day look for women over 50 — and styled it two ways: one with luxurious high-end designer pieces (on the left) and another with more affordable, accessible fashion (on the right).
The outfit includes the expected red silk blouse and black pants, but I’ve also added a few unexpected elements to keep it feeling modern. I leaned heavily into black, mixing textures for depth and interest. The pants are high-waisted, wide-leg and made of plush velvet; the black handbag sparkles with sequins; and the patent leather booties add a slick, glossy contrast to the softness of the velvet.
To finish the look, I accessorized with modern gold statement jewelry. A bold cuff bracelet and chunky earrings elevates the outfit without making it feel overdone.
