Why Velvet Is The Most Festive Fabric of The Season

Velvet is a classic for the holiday season, and there’s a reason for that. What else is so plush and luxurious, while also being relatively warm and flattering to most figures? Velvet is the most festive fabric of the season.

Here are some of our favorite ways to rock velvet this year…

Velvet Is Most Festive Fabric

Little Black Velvet Dress

The look is a classic, and velvet makes us feel appropriate for the holidays. The flattering cut and the black lace trim on this LBD by Alice + Olivia would look perfect for all kinds of occasions, while the dramatic back cutout on this one by cinq a sept highlights your upper back and legs.

Or Wrap It Up

A velvet wrap dress is about as close as you can get to wearing a robe yet is still fancy enough to be at a party. We don’t know which version of this Happily Grey x Aqua dress we like better, but really the choice between deep blue and gold depends on your complexion and hair color.

Layer On The Velvet

Swap your favorite camisole for a velvet version and make any outfit that much more festive. We’re fans of this J Brand top that would look perfect with everything from a cozy cardigan to a leather jacket.

Velvet Is The New Suede

Velvet boots or loafers in a jewel tone make for a luxe touch that adds some holiday spirit to any outfit. These Roger Vivier loafers are stunning and would work with so many things. Or go super glam and stand out with something like these blue velvet Giuseppe Zanotti’s (we fantasize about wearing these with a pencil skirt and a sweater in the alternate universe where we are J-Lo).

A Velvet Blazer Is The Perfect Topper

Even your standard jeans and tee can look more celebratory if you add a jewel-toned blazer like this one by L’Agence.

While wearing velvet for the holidays is probably about as revolutionary as wearing florals during the spring, it’s still a good idea.
