Wearable Trends: Transitional Cardigan Sweaters

It’s time to start thinking about fall! But only thinking about it, as we hopefully have a few more than a few summer days and nights left to enjoy! The thing is, pre-fall is in full swing and we are starting to see some of the goodies in store for when the cool weather arrives. I, for one, am very much looking forward to the drop in temperature, as fall is my favorite season (and admit it, it’s yours too!).

In addition to cozying up to watch the leaves fall, enjoying a nice hot beverage and gearing up for the holidays, sweater weather is one of the things I look forward to the most! But let’s get real here, it’s not quite time to bundle up yet, however there is definitely a way to start incorporating pre-fall trends into your wardrobe now. A universal one that gets reinvented every year is the cardigan sweater! And it’s the perfect transition piece.

So talking cardigans is easy, right? We all have them, we all wear them. Some are worn more for the business look, some are worn super casual with a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. Any way you rock it, it’s a mainstay in our lives. On the pre-fall runways, we saw cardigans as an integral piece of your outfit and not just an afterthought.

I’m loving the super chunky knits or the ones that are reminiscent of your collegiate days complete with stripe trim in varsity-inspired navy, green and red. We are also seeing the return of the ribbed knit, which was featured in both the Max Mara and Celine shows among others. Be them long or short, thick or thin, this trend will never go out of style, it just gets better with age. And lucky for us, it makes the PERFECT transition piece to wear for summer into fall.

How To Wear The Transitional Cardigan Sweater Trend

Now for the fun part! Taking a cardigan sweater from summer to fall is easy. A lightweight knit can take you all the way into October. Like I mentioned before, investing in a thin rib knit that can be worn over your sleeveless top or t-shirt is a no-brainer. You can find one in all price ranges and fabric contents, depending on your budget and preference.

I like the idea of wearing a cardi that’s a little longer to keep it more on trend. The chunky knit variety can also work as the perfect topper for a flowy summer dress during the cool summer nights. This style is my favorite and this Isabel Marant wool blend version would make a wonderful investment piece that you could wear for years to come.
