Wearable Trends: Tartan Plaid For An Unexpected Holiday Twist

The holiday festivities and fun have arrived! It’s time for dressing to the nines and pulling out your Sunday’s best for all the parties and gatherings that are upon you. But keep in mind, dressing to impress doesn’t always mean sparkles and glitter. Formal wear can be just as festive in a toned-down and sophisticated way. Just wrap yourself in some tartan plaid to make a big entrance at your next holiday party.

Tartan plaid is no longer for reliving your 1990s heyday, but when worn in the right silhouette, can be the star of the show at a black-tie event, company holiday party or friend’s gathering. The key is to pick one statement piece in a slim and chic cut in the tartan of your choice. Dress around it by adding neutral tones of black, white and tan, or play it up with red, blue or green for added drama. If you want to go all out in head-to-toe tartan, by all means, go for it! Just make sure the print is subtle and not reminiscent of a traditional Scottish kilt. Tartans come in a variety of color combinations including holiday reds and greens, but now also muted beige, gray, burgundy and tan options (think iconic Burberry) allowing you the chance to make a statement, without necessarily screaming it from a mountain top.
