Wearable Trends: Will You Give Patchwork A Try?

We are deep in the thick of summer. As much as I’m enjoying the beautiful, sunny and warm weather, I have to admit I’m getting a little excited for fall fashion! I personally, like to curate my fall looks early and this year is no different. Pre-fall trends are beginning to emerge and they are perfect to start rotating into your summer wardrobe now to help you transition into the fall weather. Some trends I’m excited about, some not so much and some are so interesting, I’m not sure what to think yet. So let’s make it entertaining this time and talk about one I’m not sure about yet. What do you think about the patchwork trend?

When I saw the patchwork trend popping up on the runways and in pre-fall collections in stores, I was a little taken aback. Frankly, it’s difficult not to equate patchwork with either an arts and crafts project, a 70’s reject, or a hobo from one of those old time movies. But, I will say when looking at designer collections like Christian Dior and Diane von Furstenberg, you see the definition of patchwork done right. There are no boxy or chunky silhouettes, but soft fabrics and slim lines which make the patchwork look clean and sophisticated. One my favorite looks by Dior (which featured a lot of patchwork pieces!) was a slim-fitting, midi length patchwork dress. It had long sleeves, traditional brighter patchwork colors and a crisp white pointed collar. If I was going to give this trend a try, I would start with that!

So, how does one even wear this trend? Surprisingly, there are plenty of ways to try it and many of them you can start with today. This patchwork cutout sleeve maxi dress from Nordstrom is perfect to wear right now, but once the days start to cool down you can transition it to fall by pairing it with suede booties and a chunky knit boyfriend cardigan. If you don’t want to dive in completely, just dip a toe with this Anthropologie patchwork infinity scarf. It’s the perfect accent to add to any outfit on a cool summer night or a crisp fall day. I personally love a structured piece and would love to have this Alice + Olivia patchwork French-cuff blazer in my closet. Now, that we’ve talked it through, I’m starting to like the idea of this trend! What do you think? Will you give it a try?
