Top 10 Spring ’19 Fashion Trends Women Over 40 Will Adore

It’s exciting to witness new fashion trends and to dissect them every season as the models strut down the runway during Fashion Week. This certainly held true for Spring 2019! Much of what we see in the presentations is purely for show, and we understand a lot of it we can’t really wear (nor do we care to) especially if you’re over 40. So I pulled together my favorite looks from the runways and put together my top 10 spring 19 fashion trends for women over 40.

The fashion is indeed amazing, and I know you’re going to look forward to wearing many if these looks come spring!

Menswear Suiting

Let’s hear it for the boys! OK, so menswear is nothing new, but the suiting for spring 19 could not be missed. We are excited because this spring’s suiting is polished and practical, too. The pant suits from Armani (but of course), Giambattista Valli and Tibi are cut to flatter! Go for a full pant suit or wear a tailored jacket or pants with softer pieces this spring.

Bermuda Shorts

This trend can be a tricky one, especially if you are no longer happy with your legs. However longer length shorts were shown at Hermes, Roberto Cavalli and Sally LaPointe. Some were more tailored, some fitted, and some loose and casual. And for women over 40 with fantastic legs, Bermuda shorts are trend you can totally rock and look appropriate doing so. Forget short shorts and tap pants (and avoid the bike shorts) for spring 2019.

Vests

The weather is warmer in spring and summer, but you still might need a cover-up! That’s where the vest comes into play. Mostly oversized, the new vest for spring ’19 is a simple, versatile and functional piece you will want to update your wardrobe. These vests are basically like a jacket without the sleeves. Vests were on the runway at Proenza Schouler, Narciso Rodreguez and Louis Vuitton.

Puff Sleeves

Not everything was tailored and structured for spring ’19. Feminine frills including puff sleeves were seen on the runways from short and pert at Prabal Gurung, to light and airy dresses at Rodarte to long and billowing at Valentino.

80’s Shoulders

Alexis Carrrington would be proud. Shoulders were large and in charge for spring 2019. You may think you don’t want to go back there, but these modified versions of the 80s silhouette from Gucci, Balenciaga and Isabel Marant will make your waist look slimmer.

White Dresses

The little white dress took it place on the spring 1’9 runways. Longer lengths, layers and and modern gathers gave notice to new dress shapes for the season to come. The LWDs shown here are from 3.1 Phillip Lim, Chloe and Proenza Schouler.

Shiny Satin

Shine on in satin from day to evening for Spring ’19. Satin showed up on gorgeous day dresses at Peter Pilotto, in slick fitted blazers at Tom Ford and on full cut trouser pants at Brandon Maxwell. Make it dressy or casual, but keep shining on in satin suiting and dresses.

Modern Trench

The runways showed updated versions of the classic trench, including bold black and brown colorblocked details at Akris Punto, 3/4 sleeves at Tom Ford, and high tech modern fabric at Givenchy.

Big Evening Wear

Keeping with the 80’s trend, there were a lot of oversize, overblown and voluminous evening looks. It was “Supersize me!’ at Carolina Herrera (way to go new creative director Wes Gordon) and Marc Jacobs and Valentino. Many of these shapes were gorgeous and a totally new way to cover up and still feel beautifully sexy for evening.

Intense Colors

Do you remember your Crayola crayon colors? One of my favorites was the brilliantly intense “Magenta” crayon. Bold crayon-like colors popped on the runways at many of the shows. Some of the bright hues included marigold at Oscar de la Renta, magenta at Ulla Johnson and sky blue at Balmain which is very similar to our Fountain Of 30 blue, I might add.

Looking forward to a bright Spring ’19!
