Top 10 NYFW Spring ’18 Trends Women Over 40 Can Wear

What is there to say about New York Fashion Week Spring ’18 that hasn’t been said or seen before? Unfortunately, there was very little innovation nor was there much women over 40 can or should wear. Some of the trends you should absolutely stay away from are bra tops, sheer (nobody wants to see your underwear) and multi-toned denim (hello 70’s). Here are the top 10 NYFW Spring ’18 trends women over 40 can wear and here’s to hoping the European shows are more inspiring.

 Asymmetry

Asymmetry was all over the runways on everything from tops, to bottoms to gowns. We thought we would tire of it, but we didn’t. The hem lines on asymmetric skirts and dresses tend to be forgiving as well as side gathers around the waist.

Tailored Suits

The power suit is back! Now before you go to the recesses of your closet and dig out your suits from the 90’s keep in mind the cuts are a bit different. Pants are loose and jackets are more fitted for spring ’18. That said, it’s worth investing in a new suit for Spring.

Shown at: Alexander Wang, Taoray Wang, Derek Lam (above); Dion Lee, Jason Wu, Jill Stuart, Brandon Maxwell, Camilla and Marc, Kate Spade, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Tibi, Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, Marchesa, Christian Siriano

Deep Plunge V Necks

nyfw spring 18 deep plunge v neck Sachin & Babi nyfw spring 18 deep plunge v neck red suit Brandon Maxwell nyfw spring 18 deep plunge v neck gown Tadashi Shoji

If you’ve still got it, flaunt it! Just make sure it’s not at the office. Plunging necklines are meant for evening and notice the dress over pants look on the left. We saw it quite a bit but decided to leave it off our top 10 list because the trend can so easily go wrong.

Shown at: Sachin & Babi, Brandon Maxwell, Tadashi Shoji (above); Ralph Lauren, Philipp Plein, Alexander Wang, Angel Sanchez, Badgley Mischka, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Cushnie et Ochs, Marchesa, Noon by Noor, Sally LaPointe, Tom Ford, Vivienne Tam, Michael Kors

Sequins

We love anything shiny and sparkly so if you are not a wall flower we say GO FOR IT! This season sequins were placed in unique intricate patterns and in a variety of sizes and colors. The shinier the better. Matte is so over.

Knots, Twists, Drawstrings & Ties
