Lemaire Line for Uniqlo
Lemaire Designing Line for Uniqlo
Uniqlo has announced it has partnered with French fashion brand Lemaire to design men’s and women’s collections for its stores. The Japanese fast-fashion brand said the new line is set to launch this fall. Lemaire designers Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran said they have always wanted to collaborate with the brand. “Uniqlo designs qualitative and made for all garments for everyday life. It is also our approach to fashion, and the philosophy of Lemaire,” the designers said. Tadashi Yanai, chairman, president and CEO of Uniqlo’s parent company, praised the designers. “Lemaire’s approach to design respects individuality and merges perfectly with the Uniqlo LifeWear philosophy, aimed at making life better,” he said. It is unknown whether the collaboration will continue in the future.
Nordstrom Collaborating With Piece & Co.
Nordstrom has collaborated with Piece & Co. for a 32-piece collection that will debut on March 9th. The Nordstrom + Piece & Co. line will be available in 35 stores and nordstrom.com for a month. Kathleen Wright founded Piece & Co. four years ago with the goal of ending poverty by providing employment to female artisans. The brand carries a collection of apparel and accessories from designers like Tory Burch, Alice + Olivia, Current/Elliott, Diane von Furstenberg, Rebecca Minkoff, The Honest Company and Theory. Each brand worked closely with Piece & Co. to source handmade materials and fabrics from artisans from around the world. “We’re passionate about creating something beautiful and fashion-forward so that brands feel it’s a win-win. It’s been my dream to see our fabrics used to interpret Tory [Burch’s] aesthetic and Diane [von Furstenberg’s] aesthetic,” said Wright.
John Fairchild is Remembered
Fashion and publishing icon John B. Fairchild passed away last Friday at the age of 87. He was the publisher and editor in chief of Women’s Wear Daily from 1960 to 1996 and the founding editor of W magazine in 1972. The fashion industry is no doubt mourning his death. Ralph Lauren, Karl Lagerfeld, Pierre Bergé, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Giorgio Armani, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Christian Lacroix, Carolina Herrera, Emanuel Ungaro, Valentino Garavani, Pierre Cardin, Hubert de Givenchy and Donatella Versace have all released statements honoring Fairchild. Lagerfeld summed it up when he said, “Fairchild gave the industry a new energy- and brought a different eye. Reporting fashion was different before his days. The fact that the [WWD] paper was a daily one made all that different from magazines like Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar. He could make unexciting people very interesting- and the opposite, too.” The iconic publisher will certainly never be forgotten.
