MTV’s House of Style reopens, Monique Lhuillier gets a shoe line and the Style Awards make its way to the Big Apple

MTV’s House of Style Returning!
MTV announced yesterday the decision to revamp its iconic series House of Style starting Oct. 9. Exploring the cutting edge of fashion in today’s media savvy market, House of Style will be featured exclusively on the MTV Style digital platform but also include crossover content for TV. The refurbished program promises to “highlight the humor and personality of leaders and tastemakers in the industry.”
House of Style is deeply rooted in celebrating and drawing energy from our audience’s mix-and-match love of fashion, music and pop culture,” said Dave Sirulnick, executive vice president of MTV News and Docs. The original show, which ran for 78 episodes from 1989-99, chronicled the inner workings of the fashion industry from haute couture by designers such as John Galliano to the rise of fashion models such as Cindy Crawford, Rebecca Romijn and Molly Simms.
The new host of House of Style will be revealed during the red carpet show of the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 6. The show’s shooting schedule coincides with New York Fashion Week, but will debut officially on Oct. 9.
Monique Lhuillier Launches Footwear
Monique Lhuillier is launching her first shoe collection with a capsule of about 15 styles that will expand into a full line for Fall 2013. It will include day, evening and bridal styles, and is done through a license with Ask Alice LLC, a New York-based company run by Sebastian Marzaro, who has previously worked as president and chief executive officer of Rossimoda, Bally North America and Casadei USA.
The Italian-produced shoes, to retail between $595 and $1,195, feature exotic skins and lace, for which Lhuillier is known. “I wanted them to be sexy, feminine and glamorous,” said the designer, who will stock the collection at her own stores, including the first in New York, which is set to open in September. Other retail partners are yet to be confirmed.
Style Awards Coming to NYC
Penske Media Corp. has signed a deal with IMG Fashion and NBC Universal’s Style Network to bring the Style Awards to Manhattan from Los Angeles and will hold them Sept. 5 at Lincoln Center, right at the start of fashion week. They will be televised on the Style Network a week later, on Sept. 13.
The awards, which Penske took over in 2008 as part of its acquisition of Movieline magazine, include prizes to male and female style icons, celebrity stylist of the year, makeup artist of the year and, for the first time, a Citizen of Style Award. The celebrity host and a musical guest will be revealed later.
