Today's Fashion Headlines: Bergdorf Goodman's New Floor, Kanye's NYFW Chaos, Tory Sport Launching

Bergdorf Goodman’s New Sixth Floor
Bergdorf Goodman’s New Sixth Floor
Bergdorf Goodman has an all-new sixth floor, called “The Modernists.” The designers have been given some freedom of expression in creating their own shops. “It was really important to create a clear contemporary envelope and allow designers room for some individual expression in the large perimeter shops,” Joshua Schulman, president of Bergdorf Goodman, said. “We really conceived this as a totally new floor. It’s been a long time since we did a complete gut renovation of a floor, from both an environment and merchandising point of view. Linda Fargo and her team did all of the design. She really has the vision for all of the store interiors,” he added. Several windows have been uncovered and the space offers natural light and views of Central Park and Fifth Avenue. The space is ‘modern and loft-like’ and marks the beginning of the “BG 2020” program to upgrade the women’s store areas. There will be more progress to the legendary department store in the months ahead.
Kanye Causes Chaos at NYFW
Kanye West’s last-minute decision to show his Yeezy Season 2 is causing scheduling issues at Fashion Week. The disruption is leaving designer Anne Bowen, who planned to launch her new streetwear collection, Nomad VII by Anne Bowen, scrambling. The two shows would have been at the same time tomorrow. Naeem Khan is also scheduled to show in Kanye’s new time slot.
Bowen slammed West in a statement: “We have been prepping for a year for this at considerable financial, labor- and commitment-cost to our company. Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks. We went through all the proper channels to make this a reality. And just yesterday we learned that Kanye West is having a show at the same time on the same date as ours. Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this. It’s like we are David and he is Goliath. We have put our heart and soul into our show, and should not be stepped on like this.”
Bowen has listed a complaint with the CFDA Fashion Calendar. Steven Kolb, president of the CFDA, didn’t even know about the Kanye show until he read about it in the Post. What a waste of money and time for no doubt another god-awful collection! In better news, NYFW has generated $900 million for New York City.
Tory Burch Debuting Tory Sport
Tory Sport, which has been in development for almost three years, is finally launching. On Wednesday, Tory Burch will debut a Tory Sport pop-up shop in New York City at the same location where she launched her company 11 years ago. A permanent store is set to open in March in the Flatiron District. Tory Sport will also be available exclusively at torysport.com. “It’s not a trend, it’s a shift in the way women are dressing. Women are wearing sport clothes throughout the day and even into the evening,” said Burch of the athletic wear trend. Her new collection has a retro chic vibe and will include clothing, bags, shoes and accessories for running, swimming, tennis and golf. There will also be a line called Coming & Going, which consists of pieces that can be worn before and after a workout.
