The 10 Best Self Tanners (Some Are Organic Too)!

It was a long winter and pale, lifeless skin really isn’t your best look right? Mine neither. However I won’t go out into the sun without at least SPF 30 on since I no longer want the damaging effects of the sun’s harmful UV rays (wish I knew that in the 80’s). Yet many self-tanners still make you look like an Oompa Loompa, which isn’t ideal. So I went on the hunt for the best self-tanners so you don’t have to. You can ask my husband, I tried a ton. Knowing I am not alone in my quest to find products that are more natural and organic (since I have very sensitive skin) I discovered quite a few that fit the bill as well. Here are 10 of the best tanners I have found.

Leave it to Kate Somerville to come up with an easy way to self-tan your face, neck and body. Fake Bake is developed with the most advanced anti-aging apple stem cell technology. It actually helps promote cell regeneration and repairs skin damage. It gives a luminous, natural and youthful looking tan. This self-tanner comes out of the bottle a lightish brown in color, applies clearly and gradually tans. I use it as a primer, and then apply my SPF foundation.

5. Norvell Venetian Sunless Tanning Mousse, $30

This new lightweight tanning mousse is 100% vegan, paraben free and gluten free. The lightweight foam is a breeze to apply and provides flawless color. It doesn’t have a long shelf life (keep it in the fridge to help it last longer) but it does provide amazing color.

6. DermaBlend Leg and Body Makeup, $34

Technically this one is not a self-tanner, but it offers buildable, blendable coverage for those of us with imperfections that need something stronger than a regular self-tanner. DermaBlend s a liquid body makeup that can be used to cover varicose veins, stretch marks, tattoos, scars, age spots, birthmarks and bruises. It’s lightweight and hydrates skin all day and protects skin with SPF 25 to provide 16 hours of comfortable wear that is smudge – and transfer – resistant. The formula is suitable for all skin types and comes in a variety of fade-proof shades.

7. Skinny Tan 7 Day Tanner, $20

I’m loving this self-tanner because it doesn’t just give great, even color but it tightens and tones your skin! It’s made with Guarana which is known for its tonifying and astringent properties and has been used to reduce the appearance of cellulite! Skinny Tan is free from chemicals and parabens and is vegan, environmentally friendly and never tested on animals. Brilliant right? It’s a skinny tan in a tube!

8. Vita Liberata Fabulous Self Tanning Gradual Lotion with Marula Oil, $30

I adore this tanner because it’s super hydrating and applies like a regular moisturizer. It then develops gradually into a gorgeous tan that can be deepened with daily use. Certified organic botanicals and a moisture locking system nourish the skin and gives 72-hour hydration while Odour Remove™ technology ensures no smell whatsoever. It does not contain triclosan, GMOs, fragrance, or alcohol and is prefect for sensitive skin.

9. True Natural Perfect Tan Face Self Tanner & Moisturizer 2-in-1, $30

This new, vegan, deeply hydrating self tanning lotion is packed with organic macadamia nut oil that nourishes dry skin, smells like vanilla-mandarin and gives you a beautiful tan! It’s made with a combination of naturally occurring sugars found in certain fruits and vegetables. These sugars react with amino acids found in the outer layer of the skin, creating a nontoxic reaction which gives skin a tanned look. The tan appears within 3-4 hours and will slough away naturally, usually lasting up to 1 week. Perfect Tan Body is also gluten-free, cruelty-free and 100% free from harmful chemical ingredients.

10. Jergens Natural Glow Wet Skin Moisturizer Medium/Tan 7.5oz, now $8.49

For those of us too lazy to apply self tanner or fear the bottom of our hands will turn tan because we don’t want to put on rubber gloves (is that just me?), this new product s a dream come true. It glides on smoothly to lock in hydration and create gradual, subtle color. Just don’t rinse it off because it’s made to work with wet skin. Don’t worry, the color will not get on your towel and your skin will be amazingly soft. It’s rather ingenious really.
