Summer Crochet Knits: How to Get The Look for Less

We had a heads up that crochet knits were going to be in for summer when they were spotted on the runways at Fashion Week last September. It seems like a lifetime ago, right? Prabal Gurung, Jonathan Cohen, See by Chloe, Red Valentino and Jonathan Simkhai all sent models down the runway in versions of the trend. A crochet piece of fashion can add a lot of texture and interest to your look, and give you an instant update. Soft knits are comfortable to wear in summertime, and the open weave of crochet is so light and airy. This trend works for women over 40 because it doesn’t have to be over-the-top or look extremely retro or boho. If you don’t want to go all in, you can wear a crochet accessory. Here’s how you can get summer crochet knits for less and how to style them.

Crochet Tops for Special Occasions

This gorgeous crochet top from Karen Kane caught my eye. I adore the diamond design, winding medallions and back keyhole. You can wear a different color tank top underneath to get a different look and match your outfit. This would be perfect paired with a skirt or jeans if you’re planning to go to a small outdoor gathering or out to a restaurant. This top is a little on the pricey side, so you may want to plan your outfits accordingly to get a good cost per wear!

Feminine Crochet Sneakers

For those who prefer casual looks and a more subtle approach to this trend, these Chuck Taylors available from Free People are perfection! They’re a creative, feminine twist on a classic sneaker and are available in black or white. You can wear these through the fall and get your money’s worth. They would work with many different casual outfits or even paired with a dress or skirt for an unexpected look.

Cozy, Knit Sweaters

Who doesn’t love a cozy knit sweater? This one from ASOS is a beautiful merlot color and features a handmade looking crochet pattern. You can pull this sweater on to combat overzealous air conditioning or chilly evenings now, and then wear it through next winter. Even though it’s almost August, you’ll get a lot of use out of a sweater purchase in the upcoming months.

Breezy, Crochet Dresses

This cream crochet knit dress from ASOS is, in my opinion, the perfect summer dress. It’s easy to throw on, and simple to style because it’s a neutral color. I like the longer length because you can wear it for occasions ranging from running errands to a nice dinner. You can pair this dress with everything from low sneakers to sandals to heels.

Fun Crochet Backpacks

If you’re like me and prefer to carry your essentials hands free, this small backpack from Urban Outfitters is a fun, bohemian statement. It comes in three colors – rust, black or cream. I love the tassels on the drawstring closure and rope straps.

Casual, Everyday Eyelet Tops

Old Navy has a lot of affordable, on trend clothes for everyday casual outfits, and this eyelet top is no exception. The open weave pattern gives you the look of crochet without the heaviness. It features dolman sleeves and a round neck, which are both very flattering for most women. It’s now on sale, so you could pick it up in different colors as it comes in six! It looks like the perfect length if you wear it with high waisted denim.

Styling Summer Crochets and Knits

With everything going on in the world, have some fun with this trend and don’t take it too seriously. It’s easy to incorporate knits and crochets into your wardrobe for a little textural interest!
