How To Style A Zoom Meeting Outfit High Low

You may have a few important video conference calls coming up these days. Everyone knows you are at home, but you still want to look like you mean business, or at least business casual. You can get the comfort of casual with this professional look you will wear now and once you can get back to your office. Here’s how to style a Zoom meeting outfit high low.

High Low Styling A Zoom Meeting Outfit

High low styling is where you can choose all high-end, high-quality and high-priced fashion or low-priced look-a-likes (or you can mix and match thus truly making it high low). Yes, you guessed, it, often the low-priced pieces lack the quality and details of the high-priced, but in many cases there is little difference and it may not matter to you. Right now you can find some great discounts on designer fashion, and I found a few of those pieces for this outfit, so you may like to invest in a few.

The Bold Colored Jacket

Newscasters do it and why can’t you? They wear bold bright colors for the TV cameras because it looks better on video. Bright pinks and coral reds are hot for spring 2020, and a vibrant jacket like this one will punch up your spring summer wardrobe. This color is very flattering on most skin tones and is very versatile. Corals work with black, white, floral prints, denim blues, khakis and olive. You can even try pairing it with camouflage or animal prints. A solid color jacket is ideal for your business casual video conference calls. You will want to avoid patterns like plaids and checks because they can vibrate on video. A short jacket like this will be comfortable while you sit and will be an easy piece to wear when you can go out again. Style it high with this Altuzarra Two-Button Blazer for $897 (it was originally $1,495) or go low priced with this H&M Straight-cut Jacket for a mere $34.99!

A Perfect White Tee

A white tee shirt softens the jacket and makes it less stuffy, but you will still look professional for a business casual video call. The crew neckline will keep your cleavage covered and appropriate for work. Choose a soft, high-quality Eileen Fisher Short Sleeve Jersey Tee for $88 or get this BP. Crewneck T-Shirt for only $15.

Cool Reading Glasses

If you’re over 40, you may need to whip out a pair of readers during your conference call. Don’t worry because you can still look chic. I discovered Caddis Eye Appliances if you want to invest in a cool pair. The MIKLOS style comes in a lot of colors but I prefer the matte bone for $89. Or you can get a lower price pair of readers like this Flower by Drew Barrymore Frankie style for $19.94. (I was a little sad that Drew Barrymore is designing cheaters. I think of her as being young!)

Comfortable Jeans

In a Zoom meeting, no one will see what you’re wearing below the waist, unless you stand up. So go ahead and wear a comfortable pair of washed denim wide leg jeans. You may not wear these to the office, but you can at home. This style makes an easy transition from your sweat pants to real pants! They have a high waist, but also have stretch in the denim, so you will not feel restricted. Go high end with a pair of Rag and Bone Maya High-Rise Straight Jeans (were $275, now $199). Or you can go low priced with a pair of H&M Vintage Straight High Jeans for only $39. For this pair I recommend you go up a size or two even though they do offer 1% stretch!

Casual Slides

Last but not least, slide into a pair of slides. The Birkenstock look is back, but I never did and still can’t go there. However, I will recommend a sleeker version like these Valentino Garavani Rockstud Slide Sandals for $425, or these Dr. Scholl’s Pisces Slide Sandals for only $49.95. These foot-contoured sandals will caress your feet under your desk!

Styling Tips for Zoom Meeting Business Casual Outfits

1. Wear a jacket! A jacket will give you a little bit of authority in your video conference meeting. It doesn’t need to be a very structured jacket, and a cropped one will stay in place when you are sitting.

2. Wear bright solid colors. Bold colors, bright pastels and jewel tones look best on video cameras as well as darker shades like black and navy (but they are boring).  Avoid wearing busy black and white geometric patterns and checks and washed out neutrals.

3. Dress comfortably! You may be in your video meetings for hours and you want to wear soft cottons and comfortable stretch fabrics.

4. Dress from the waist up. Make sure your top looks work-ready. Add a few accessories like a cool pair of glasses, earrings or a simple pendant necklace. Don’t overdo the accessories because you want people to listen to you, without distractions.

  1. I didn’t look too good during my last zoom get-together. Definitely have to wear lipstick next time and maybe like you said, wear a bold colored jacket. Thanks for the tips.
