It’s almost the middle of March, and springtime is nearly here! I can’t wait to swap my leggings and coats for comfortable spring dresses. In my opinion, a dress is always an excellent investment. You can maximize its cost per wear by not only wearing it in the spring and summer, but also during chilly months with a sweater thrown on over it, paired with tights and booties. I’ve rounded up the best spring dresses under $80 to complement your warm weather wardrobe!

Puff Sleeves and Polka Dots

Who What Wear’s line with Target continues to serve up chic looks at affordable prices. This statement-making puff sleeve dress is no exception! While doing research and selecting dresses for this article, I noticed polka dots and puff sleeves popped up multiple times, and this was my favorite take on combining the trends. The dress has a full three tier skirt and features fun pink and red oversized polka dots. It’s also available in a dark floral print with tiny yellow flowers. When styling this dress, I would keep the accessories to a minimum and let the dress make the statement.

Neutral Tie Belt Shirt Dresses

For those who have invested in a bright, statement bag or heels and would rather have their accessories make the statement, a classic, neutral shirt dress is always a worthwhile purchase. This flattering olive colored shirt dress from Old Navy would work with an array of different body types. The color complements many different skin tones too, plus I like the cheeky, encouraging name ‘olive through this!’ This dress is a blank canvas and would look beautiful with a swipe of berry lipstick and layered gold jewelry.

Legendary French style icon Inès de la Fressange continues her collaboration with Uniqlo with this effortless day dress available in yellow, black or cream. This is such a simple dress with a tie waist, small buttons and pockets. The fabric is extremely comfortable and would be a wonderful day to day dress to wear around the house.

Dark, Romantic Floral Spring Dresses

Dark florals have been tending for a while now, and they continue to be in for spring. And as Diane von Furstenberg taught us many years ago, a wrap dress is always a good idea! So, keeping those two things in mind, I adore this floral wrap dress from Urban Outfitters. The pattern is beautiful; one second it looks like flower petals and the next it could be butterflies. The midi wrap dress has puff sleeves, a collared neckline and a slit hem. I would wear it with black ankle booties for spring because I like a juxtaposition of tough and breezy. This dress is also available in white and two other green or purple floral patterns.

Feminine Patterned Chiffon Dresses

Chiffon dresses are so springlike and make me daydream of being out in the world again. This snake print dress from ASOS would be the perfect dress to wear to the office or to brunch with friends. I love that the pattern is edgy, yet the dress is so ladylike with its tie waist, frill shoulders, fluted sleeves and tiered hem. I would style it with a pair of my Vans for an everyday dress, and then dress it up with heeled sandals at night. In both situations red lipstick would be involved!

For a floral chiffon moment, H&M is featuring this airy calf length dress in a dainty print. I love the tie at the neck and the long raglan balloon sleeves. This would be perfect for any fancier outdoor events in the upcoming months. If I were to wear it, I would keep my hairstyle simple and makeup to a minimum to embrace the natural look that complements this floral print. However, I’m 5’2’’ and would worry about this dress overwhelming my figure, so this is definitely a look for taller women to wear! It is also available in an animal print and black with sheer stripes.

Maxi and Midi Spring Dresses for Sunny Days

These dresses are a little more summery than the others. This maxi dress from Amazon would look fantastic at a summer BBQ or for a stroll on the beach. It’s available in seven colors and patterns, including polka dots. I like the tie waist, the flounce at the bottom and the tiny buttons on the front. It would be the perfect vacation dress, for when we can finally travel again!

This tiered camisole dress from Gap would be perfect for the very hot weather we will experience later on in the summer. Of course, you can always wear a knotted button down over it to cover your shoulders. It’s available in a pretty blue floral print, leopard and classic black. This dress also has feminine buttons down the front. The best thing? It has pockets!

Tips for Styling Spring Dresses

  • You can wear a sweater or button down shirt over a dress to keep warm in the evenings or to protect you from the sun on a hot day.
  • Dresses that feature a bold pattern make a fun statement, which is much needed after everything we have all been through in the past year! Let the dress make a statement and keep accessories to a minimum.
  • Wearing a plain wrap or shirt dresses in a neutral colors? Let the accessories do the talking! Wear with a bright bag or heel and statement jewelry.
  • Dresses are so versatile and can be dressed up or down by pairing with heels, booties, sandals, sneakers or boots. The sky is the limit!
