Splurge vs Steal: How To Style A Concert T-shirt When You’re Over 40

Can women over 40 wear concert t-shirts? Of course. But don’t just throw one on over sweatpants or old jeans. If you style your t-shirt you can look chic and sophisticated and not like you are trying too hard to look young. After all, many if the new remakes of vintage concert tees are ones you may already own. Your daughter or niece may be wearing a concert t-shirt, but you may have actually been to the concert, or at least “had the album.”

Concert T-Shirts: Splurge vs Steal

High-end variations of some of our favorite concert tees are popular right now. They offer 100% soft cotton, vivid graphics and flattering oversized styling. But to get a tee from brands like Daydreamer and Madeworn, you will have to pay $72 to upwards of $170. If you want to spurge, go ahead! But if you prefer to spend a lot less, I found some similar-looking t-shirts for a steal. Oh and, maybe you already have one you kept for sentimental reasons in storage? It’s time to bring it out and style it!

How To Style A Concert T-Shirt

Here are several ways to style a concert t-shirt. The sky is really the limit. Always wear one with attitude and add your own style!

  1. Wear it the classic way with faded jeans and a leather biker jacket. Add some high heels and a fabulous belt for polish.
  2. Go monochromatic to add a sophisticated edge. Wear a black concert tee with black slim black pants, black denim or black leather pants and black booties. Or do the same with all white or winter white.
  3. Try a concert t-shirt with a long floral or pleated skirt under a jean jacket, cropped cardigan or biker jacket. Finish off your look with boots, booties, sneakers or sandals.
  4. Go bold with colored jeans (bright or pastel) and top it off with oversized black blazer. Don’t forget your sunglasses.
  5. Bring on the bling! Statement earrings, cocktail rings, cuff bracelets, an oversized chain link necklace or even pearls can dress up your concert t-shirt in unexpected ways.

Take a cue from the way these tees were styled at Intermix and Neiman Marcus. I would wear longer skirts, but if you can rock the look, go ahead! Notice how fun it is to mix and match when you style a concert tee. Just wear one instead of a solid tee.
