Runway To Real Way: That’s a Wrap! Tie It Up this Summer with Paperbag Waists

How many times in life can we wear things wrapped up perfectly with a nice little bow? Luckily, the latest fashion trend we’re eyeing does just that! Paperbag waists are a fun, flattering alternative to a regular belt this summer, and were a constant fixture at the Spring/Summer 2016 runway shows. And though the runways were awash with paperbag waists in rich tones, prints and texture, we kept it simple for our summer style round-up, armed with the mission of finding neutral pieces to last all season long.

Nothing says breezy summer style than a skirt in a lightweight fabric. Ports 1961 hits hard with the 3 P’s this season – pinstripe, poplin, paperbag waist – and we can’t wait to mix it into our regular rotation. The length and fabric can pass as work staples but the playful waist and fresh sky blue beg to be taken to any one of your multiple outdoor activities.

The only other summer bottom that demands as much attention as a skirt are shorts. Replace the camp shorts of your childhood with a long, lean silhouette and vertical stripes to match and you’ve got a playful alternative to pants that sacrifice the heat with none of the chic like this sweet little pair from Frame for Intermix.

You can rock a paperbag-waisted pair of black pants all year round, which makes them even more of a commodity. Throw in a price tag for under $50 and a heightened hem (perfect for heels in the summer and booties in the fall) and you’ve got a new mainstay for the very front of your closet, thanks to Missguided.

Another shade that can easily be carried over into fall is anything in the khaki/tan/light brown family. Paired with a slim-fitting blazer and loosely tied blouse, a midi length skirt is another style staple worth it’s weight in wear. We love the long seam of buttons up the front and the perfectly dainty bow at the waist. Another unbelievable price point and Simply Be’s midi ($45) may just be too good to be true…or resist.
