People’s Choice Awards 2016: Sandra Bullock, Kate Hudson, Claire Danes, and more!

What is it about the People’s Choice Awards that brings out some of the strangest and shiniest fashion? (Next to the MTV Video Music Awards, of course. Or any music awards show for that matter.) Maybe it’s because it’s the first big awards show of the year and the celebs just don’t care yet (they’re gearing up for the Golden Globes, Oscars, and yes, even the Screen Actors Guild.) Or maybe it’s because the People’s Choice Awards have never been superformal in the same way that we’ve come to expect from the other awards shows later in the season. This year, the celeb fashionistas pulled out their mini-dresses, sparkles and thigh-high slits with a vengeance. Add the trends we’ve seen so far this season – white pantsuits, goth, black and white, and lame and you’ve got the 2016 People’s Choice Awards and all of it’s style strategies (and mishaps.) Let’s check out what the celebs wore this year and whether it worked: Special Lady in Red!

In all that black and white madness, there was one who stood out…and it was because she didn’t wear black and white (and didn’t care about any of the trends.) Sandra Bullock looks gorgeous every time I see her and her appearance at the People’s Choice was no exception. She was ravishing in red! Black and White

I didn’t like the pixie cut but this bob is definitely growing on me, Kaley! Never loved your fashion sense, though, unfortunately.

A Little Bit of Black and Metal (Goth?)   OK, you might disagree with me on this one — but something about these looks scream goth to me. Or “trying to be goth.” Especially the black and metal look on Claire Danes and the grommets on Ellen Pompeo’s Michael Kors number. COMMENT if you disagree.

Melissa McCarthy – I’m such a big fan! The sequined leggings are alright – I would have preferred nicer trousers – but that light pink top is just so washed out and frumpy. You could be looking much better…and you have! — Simona Shemer Photos: People.com
