Gwen Stefani Style Icon of the Year

Black and white and blush…oh my! The People Magazine Awards brought out some of the biggest stars, but more surprisingly, it brought black and white back to the forefront of celebrity fashion. Blush was a close second, if stars like Kate Hudson and Jennifer Lopez had anything to say about it. For those that don’t know, the People Magazine Awards is a new awards showcase conjured up by People magazine. People magazine is the world’s most popular magazine and celeb brand reaching more than 59 million consumers, according to NBC, who showcased the event last night on its tv channel. Stars like Lisa Kudrow, Karlie Kloss, and Jon Hamm collected awards for Television Actress of the Year, Model of the Year, and Television Actor of the Year. Gwen Stefani won a coveted Style Icon of the Year award. It’s not hard to see why. Especially after her speech which told the audience that her own style icon was her eighth grade self which was into ska music, James Dean, and Latino culture. Before we get into the blacks and the whites, let’s note the celebs who dared to be different on the red carpet. Although in JLo‘s case, blush is not quite so different from the norm. It’s a color she wears often.

What do y’all think? You know, I have to say that Jennifer Lopez looks amazing for her age but it’s the first time I’ve looked at her and noticed that she’s had work done. Naeem Khan‘s work, as always, is stunning.
Kate Hudson in Valentino

Honing in on the blush trend is Kate Hudson in Valentino. The look is pale and boho and ethereal in that Kate Hudson way. Valentino seems to have created the perfect dress for People Magazine’s “Role Model of the Year.”
Mindy Kaling in Salvador Perez

In a dramatic departure from the crowd, Mindy Kaling gives us jaw-dropping neon pink and looks amazing in it. This Salvador Perez designer is one to watch as is the actress herself.

Bring back the menswear! Roselyn Sanchez looks great in her pale blue Pamella Roland suit although I would have liked to see at least a camisole underneath and not that Kim Kardashian bra look going on. Black and White  Why did so many actresses chose to do black and white? Could it be the season? The comeback of a trend? The colors the event called for? Who knows? I was just as surprised as anyone else to see it going on.  Even more interesting was the amount of ways to change up that typical black or white look – with cut outs, leather, lace, and jumpsuits. Let’s see what I’m talking about:
Chloe Grace Moretz in
Chloe Grace Moretz
This Next Generation star’s makeup is a bit severe, but her dress isn’t. I think Chloe Grace Moretz is showcasing this time in her life where she’s “not a girl, not yet a woman” and experimenting with the look. Don’t love it, but I do like that she’s showing that she can do both at once.

Jennifer Aniston does a little of both. So does Modern Family’s Ariela Winter.

The rest of the stars in black had an array of looks from sheer sleeves to high neck turtlenecks to embellishments, cut outs, leather, and lace.
