Catch Patek Philippe’s The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition Now Open in NYC

This past week I had the honor to attend the grand opening of luxury watchmaker Patek Philippe’s The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition New York 2017, which is now open to the public. It’s a must-see because there has never been an exhibition on the history of watchmaking of this scale before in the U.S.

Patek Philippe has partnered with Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club for The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition New York which takes place at Cipriani 42nd Street until July 23, 2017. The 11-day public exhibition beautifully showcases Patek Philippe’s tradition of high-precision watch manufacturing, an insight into the company’s 178-year history as well as its heritage in the domain of Haute Horlogerie.

Visitors have the opportunity to discover the world of the last privately family owned Geneva watch company from the inside. It’s truly spectacular. There are 10 specific rooms (including the Theater Room, Current Collection Room, Museum Room, US Historic Room, Rare Handcrafts Gallery and Grand Complications Room) which have been created to showcase unique environments.

You can view pocket and wristwatches dating back to 1530 in a space of 13,218 square feet. Highlights of the exhibition include a historic desk clock commissioned for President John F. Kennedy and Joe DiMaggio’s Patek Philippe Ref. 130J, created in 1948, reportedly given to Mr. DiMaggio by the owners of the New York Yankees.

Watchmakers and artisan demonstrations are some of the interactive activities (as well as a virtual reality room) taking place during the exhibition as a way to educate on the inner-workings of fine watchmaking. After visitors have concluded their tour they are welcome to rest and relax in the Patek Philippe Café.
