Vera Wang’s SS16 collection was a far escape from her luxurious bridal collections that are so highly coveted by brides-to-be. Instead, it played up the strong, powerful and sexy woman who loves to incorporate menswear-inspired pieces into her every day. The collection had a strong point of view with a big emphasis on boxy, playful silhouettes without sacrificing the female form.
Highly tailored suiting pieces played off of the idea of the power suit, but was pared-down for a women’s body, resulting in versatile pieces that fit impeccably. Additionally playing with the masculine vs. feminine theme, Wang paired seemingly strong menswear inspired staples, like over-sized suit vests, pleated culottes and button front shirts with ultra feminine and skin-baring items like short shorts, crop tops and mini skirts emblazoned with beading, sequins, feathers, fur and fringe.
Black and white dominated the collection with a few pops of red and some metallic sequin pieces sprinkled throughout. Overall, it definitely spoke to the strong, independent women who feels more comfortable in her other half’s shirt and jacket instead of the romantic and girly summer sun dresses loved by some other ladies.
A few of my favorites in the collection included the gold beaded crop top paired with black culottes and matching long vest, the cold-shoulder over-sized coat paired with the matching black short shorts, and the black midi length circle skirt paired with the fur v-neck cropped vest.
