Happy National Fragrance Day! 10 Best Picks For Spring ’16

Today is not only Good Friday, it’s National Fragrance Day! So of course I had to do a little research on some of the hottest fragrances for Spring/Summer ’16. Now keep in mind, I’m a little biased when it comes to perfumes. I don’t like anything cloyingly sweet, woodsy or really heavy. If the description says it has notes of “patchouli” I run screaming in the other direction.

My perfume preferences, especially when it comes to the warmer months, are light florals, clean greens and fruits. Oh and I’m a sucker for roses, which you will see by my selections. Hopefully at least one of these picks will be of interest.

1. Jo Malone™ ‘Peony & Blush Suede’ Cologne, $65-$125

Peonies are the base, but there are also hints of red apple, jasmine, rose and gily flowers. Perfect.

2. Paco Rabanne OLYMPEA Eau De Parfum Spray, $75

I have to admit I was surprised how much I liked this one because when I read it contained salty vanilla, floral notes like ginger lily and hydroponic jasmine plus some oriental notes of  green mandarin I was like, I’m not so sure. But wait there’s more! It also has some sandalwood and ambergris but somehow it’s balanced and it works!

3. AERIN Beauty ‘Mediterranean Honeysuckle’ Eau de Parfum, $110-$155

As I mentioned in my recent “What’s in my bag” video, I carry this one everywhere lately. To me it embodies summer! There really aren’t too many AERIN scents I don’t like and I have quite a few favorites, but this one is really my favorite! It contains sweet honeysuckle, sparkling grapefruit, Italian bergamot, mandarin oil, lily of the valley, gardenia, jasmine sambac absolute. It’s very light and you’ll love it!

4. Annick Goutal Rose Pompon Eau de Toilette Spray, $149

This scent has notes of blackcurrant and raspberry, spicy pepper and velvety peonies with a base of fresh rose pompon. Totally addictive.

5. Jimmy Choo ‘Exotic’ Eau de Toilette, $92

OK, so this one has a little patchouli, but I hardly notice it, so I let it slide. This limited-edition Jimmy Choo fragrance is actually bright and a bit fruity. It has notes of blackcurrant sorbet, pink grapefruit, passion flower, tiger orchid, raspberry and yes, Indonesian patchouli.

6. Norell New York Eau de Parfum, $150

This fragrance is far from new. In fact it has been around since 1968, but it’s new to me. So there. It’s green floral that is surprisingly modern. Notes include mandarin, bergamot pear, jasmine, peony, gardenia and orchid. The base is orris butter, vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla and musk.

7. Diptyque Eau Rose Eau de Toilette, $150

This rose scent (a combo of Centifolia and Damask roses) has a hint of lychee, bergamot, cedar and musk. It fabulous. Enough said.

8. Lanvin ‘Éclat de Fleurs’ Eau de Parfum, $85-$105

Did someone say Lanvin? Yes, please. Éclat de Fleurs is a delicate, fruity and floral. Notes are freesia, pear, violet leaves, nectarine white musks and sandalwood. Even though it’s fruity floral or musky, it works brilliantly!

9. L’Artisan Parfumeur Mimosa Pour Moi Eau de Toilette, $145

I’m a sucker for Mimosa scents because it reminds me of one of my favorite places on earth – the French Riviera. It also contains notes of violet leaves and blackcurrant bud.

10. Maison Margiela Lazy Sunday Morning, $125

Somehow this scent really captures a lazy Sunday morning (not that I remember those), but its fragrance is like fresh sheets dried by the sun. Crazy right?
