Mile High Style: Air Travel Tips And Tricks

Long haul flights are one of the biggest style challenges out there. Between the dry, recycled cabin air, the relative lack of space, and the fact that you will almost certainly be rumpled when you arrive, looking fabulous in the air and upon arrival is tough even for the best of us. However, there are some mile high style air travel tips and tricks that will make you feel like yourself, even when you’ve been in a plane for twelve hours.

Scarves, Shawls, And Wraps, Oh My!

There’s a reason why everyone says that you should bring an oversize cashmere wrap or similar when you travel – they are super useful. An oversize shawl is a blanket for warmth, a way to cover up both wrinkled clothes or super casual pieces, and when done in a flattering color, can warm up a travel weary face. This cashmere wrap from C by Bloomingdale’s comes in a luscious ruby red and a sapphire blue that would work for virtually everyone.

Mile High Style Gotta Wear Shades

For arriving in style, no matter what state your eye makeup is in, you need sunglasses. Think big and bold and walk off the plane and out of the airport in style. We’re fans of something classic and oversize, like this 55mm black pair from Quay Australia.

Serious Skincare

So you’re going to be on a plane for six hours or longer? Get some pampering in with rich moisturizers and eye cream, or maybe even a mask or two (we promise no one is paying attention to you on the plane, but perhaps not recommended if you’re traveling with colleagues). The travel skincare sizes at Sephora are just about perfect for this (check this Belif best sellers travel kit), but we do suggest sticking with products and brands you’re familiar with. No one wants to have a bad reaction to a new product at 5,000 feet!

Sophisticated Athleisure

There’s no denying that athleisure is perhaps the best choice for flying, and it is possible to do it in a way that wouldn’t look ridiculous in first class. Think black or gray, no crazy patterns, and styling that looks more classic and less gym-ready. This Climawear runner tee paired with black leggings would be perfect, and you can add a black or gray jacket for the cold.

Cozy Socks

Cashmere, alpaca, or otherwise plush socks will make you that much happier on a chilly flight. Splurge on a fabulous pair or two like these bed socks from the White Company as a reward for dealing with the flight!

Tunic It Up

Leggings and a long drapey top are one of the best travel outfits out there. Add a cardigan and a big scarf, and you’re all set for takeoff. This tie waist tunic top from Anthropologie is super versatile both for the flight there and once you get to your destination.

Go For The Glow

Swipe on a bright, complexion-enlivening hue when you land and you’ll instantly feel ready to conquer a new city, start your vacation, and enjoy your trip. A multi-stick like this one from ILIA is ideal for adding some color to your cheeks and lips upon landing, and it won’t be a problem for security.

How do you look your best on long haul flights? Road warriors and jet setters, we want your tips!
