Met Gala 2017 Best Dressed Celebrities: Blake Lively, Rihanna, Chrissy Teigen, Kim Kardashian and more

Was this the wackiest Met Gala yet? Quite possibly. We know that the Met Gala, or “Fashion Prom” as some magazines have called, is one of the biggest fashion events of the year and more importantly it’s the biggest event when it comes to fashion risk-taking. We were on the hunt for the Met Gala 2017 best dressed celebrities.

This year was no exception. With the theme of “The Art of In-Between” celebrating Comme de Garcons, a 35-year old brand that is all about defining the boundaries of fashion in a new way, it was obvious the celeb fashionistas were going to pull out all the stops. And that they did,  but was it effective? It was crazy, to say the least, if the following looks have anything to say about it.

Met Gala 2017 Best Dressed Celebrities

They Went There

Rihanna in Comme des Garcons
Caroline Kennedy in Comme des Garcons
Katy Perry in Margiela
Helen Lasichanh

We know that Rei Kawankubo and the Commes des Garcons brand was always grappling with the idea of fashion and beauty and art, but this look is beyond me right now. Helen Lasichanh, wife of Pharrell and mother of triplets was a co-chair at the Met Gala and decided to toe the line when it came to her “conceptualized look.” She was subsequently compared to the Teletubbies.

Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren Blue Label

Strange look. Might as well be wearing a trench coat on your body and that’s about it.

Lena Dunham in Elizabeth Kennedy
Tracee Ellis Ross in Commes de Garcons

There is something about this woman that is so classy that she can literally pull off a blue potato sack kind of dress and make it look incredible.

Zendaya in Dolce & Gabbana
Rita Ora in Marchesa

Statement-making for sure, but sadly this reminds me of that red number worn by Emma Stone to the Oscars back in 2012. It has that same high neck bow and red jewel tone.

Solange Knowles in who knows?

Unlike Tracee Ellis Ross, I can’t say the same for fashionista Solange and her risk-taking efforts. What is this puffy coat ensemble?

Blake Lively in Atelier Versace
Haley Bennett in Dolce & Gabbana
Cara Delevingne in Chanel
Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa
Miranda Kerr in Oscar de la Renta

Love the dress, but I was hoping for a little less demure from Miranda Kerr.

Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren

Sure you could argue this is a piece of fabric wrapped around a body, but it’s actually a Ralph Lauren piece of cloth. 😉 Not sure what’s up with the latex boot underneath though.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in The Row

They are sooo good with their brand, but why can’t they work on themselves? Sadly, I’ve seen this look before from Mary-Kate and Ashley. Still makes a statement though.

Halle Berry in Atelier Versace
Janelle Monae in Ralph & Russo

Celebs Who Did Not Look Like Themselves

Celine Dion in Versace

Too much dark makeup Celine! But the dress is pretty funky.

Julianne Moore in Calvin Klein by Appointment

This look is the epitome of girl standing behind a bush. That or she’s wearing a bird on her body.

Jennifer Lopez in Valentino

Dressed down much more than we expected her to be (or dressed UP perhaps?), JLo looks amazing in simple sky blue and with A-Rod on her arm!

Lily Collins in Giambattista Valli

Apparently, this is her real hair not a wig? I’m hearing mixed stories here. Definitely an homage to Rei Kuwakubo, though.

Rose Byrne in Ralph Lauren

Rose Byrne, we hardly knew ya!

Allison Williams in Diane von Furstenberg

Is that you, Allison Williams?

Elizabeth Banks in Michael Kors

I don’t remember the last time I saw Elizabeth Banks with straight hair.

Off-the-Shoulder and Other Necklines
Kim Kardashian in Vivienne Westwood

Much more simple than I’m used to from Kim Kardashian, the queen of bling and over-the-top ensembles. Problem is, I don’t know if she’s really trying to go more simple because of what happened to her or if she’s just trying to reinvent herself. She’d probably say the first reason, but you can’t fault me for asking.

Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger
Doutzen Kroes in Brock Collection
Katie Holmes in Zac Posen
Jessica Chastain in Prada
Lupita Nyong’o in Prada
Reese Witherspoon in Mugler
Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney
Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein
All the rest
Emily Ratajkowski in Marc Jacobs
Kerry Washington in Michael Kors
Ashley Graham in H&M
Madonna in Moschino
Serena Williams in Atelier Versace
Zoey Deutch in Tory Burch
