Sophisticated Dresses

This effortless dress from Topshop features a breezy silhouette, asymmetrical skirt and matching neck tie. The beautiful red color will help you stand out in a crowd when you wear this dress. The horse coin pattern gives a touch of western chic without going too over the top. It could easily be dressed up with heels and an envelope clutch or down with booties and a crossbody bag.

Polka Dots for Days

If wearing skirts are more your thing, this polka dot print skirt from ASOS features a flattering box pleat and high waist. Its classic cut will work on many different body types and simple print makes it perfect to mix and match with other punchy pieces! Sure, you could wear it with a crisp white button down, but you could also pair it with a bright floral print top or one that features smaller polka dots.

Stripes on Stripes

Prefer stripes? This vertical striped shirt from H&M gives off nautical vibes and is flattering since the stripes are skinny and vertical. Your silhouette will be elongated, and the cut isn’t tight, leaving you with breathing room. To stay on the colorful trend, pair with red skinny pants or a bright violet skirt. To mix and match patterns, pair this top with pretty much anything like polka dots, florals, more stripes, a graphic print, etc. The sky is the limit since this piece is easy to style. Just ensure there is balance with the silhouettes, so your figure doesn’t look too boxy.

Rainbow Colors Bucket Bag

If it’s easier for you to wear prints on your accessories, a bag is a fun way to make a statement. This colorful bucket bag from Free People has all the colors of the rainbow and gives you endless possibilities to brighten up your look. The smaller pops of color on the strap and tie are a nice contrast to the broad stripes.

Floral Palazzo Pants

Florals for spring? Groundbreaking! Devil Wears Prada jokes aside, it’s always nice to throw a couple floral pieces into the mix. These woven floral pants from Forever 21 feature a relaxed fit, wide leg and pockets. They’re perfect for an easygoing day and are at a great price point. To keep the look from being too girly, be sure to avoid looking too matchy-matchy and don’t wear them with pink or yellow. The sweet colors can be toughened up slightly with a black and white striped top.

How to Wear Prints

1. Showcase one printed fashion piece at a time. Find a print or pattern that speaks to you. Printed fabric is wearable art and this spring you can find a myriad of prints and patterns to suit your taste. You will notice everything from subtle watercolor prints to large impressionist florals, and subtle pinstripes to bold oversize modern graphics. Wear one printed piece like a skirt, dress, blouse, jacket or pants with solid color pieces and accessories to match or accent the print.

2. Wear prints on your accessories. If wearing a print piece of clothing seems too daring for you there are plenty of printed accessory options for spring. Handbags, shoes, sunglasses, belts, scarves and jewelry are available in florals, polka dots, stripes, tiny prints and a variety of animal prints.

3. Mix and match your prints. The most adventurous fashionistas know how to do this, but everyone should give it a try! The easiest way to mix prints is to take one large print and one smaller print that share a common color. For example, if you have a large print blue floral skirt, wear it with a tiny blue striped shirt, or wear a large geometric pattern with black elements with a smaller animal print that includes black such as leopard or python.

Shop these pieces to brighten up your days and make a graphic statement!
